1. NACLO 2015 – North American Computational Linguistics Olympiad.

NACLO is a contest for US and Canadian high-school students in which contestants compete to solve compelling and creative puzzles in linguistics and computational linguistics. Requiring no previous knowledge of linguistics, languages, or computing, these puzzles can be solved by analytic reasoning alone, and serve as a fun introduction to a field to which many high school students have never been introduced.

Registration opens in mid-September. I register as a high school site so make sure you register under our school or ask me to do your registration.

Round 1: January 28, 2016 -4th Fl. Forum – 9 a.m. to noon

Round 2: March 10, 2016 for those who qualify
2. Minnesota Brain Bee – Registration ends TBD

Computerized preliminary - January TBD, 2015, at ??? in ???

Top 30 compete in the State Competition in February.

3. Biology Olympiad – Registration opens October 15th.

Round 1 Exam – Thursday, February 11, at 7:30 a.m. in B106.

Information can be found on the WHS V21 Website.

Open exam will take place in February.

Semi-final exam is administered later in March.
4. Physics Olympiad

The purpose of this exam is to potentially win a spot on the 2014 U.S. Physics team. The open exam will take place January 20, 2016, at 7:30 a.m. in B106.

See Mrs. Iverson by December 4th to register.
5. Physics Bowl

This competition is for the purpose of winning individual awards and recognition and does not culminate in a position on the U.S. Physics team. Registration for this event does not open until December 2015. The exam will be given sometime in the window from late March to early April.

6. Chemistry Olympiad

This contest is run completely through Mrs. Grack so you will need to see her if you wish to compete.

8. Minnesota Music Listening – Registration deadline is Friday, October 14th.

9. Questions Unlimited 3-2-1.

3-2-1 is a team academic competition with a style of questioning more in line with Quiz Bowl. We will practice for 3-2-1 on Thursday, during lunch periods in C113 beginning October 1, 2015.

1st block: 11th & 12th Grade Team in Media Classroom.

10. USA Astronomy and Astrophysics Olympiad

The Astronomy Olympiad is a series of tests written to select the most competitive individuals to compose a 5-person team representing the USA at the International Olympiad on Astronomy and Astrophysics.

The first round is a multiple-choice test that will be administered during the week of January 25-January 29, 2016. The competitors who score within the top 50% will go on to the next round of competition, which will be held around March. Eligibility for the first two rounds is not dependent on nationality, but only US citizens and permanent residents can represent the US at the 10th IOAA in India during December 2016. There is a $5 registration fee.
