14 Virtual & Augmented Reality STARTUPS

are to meet their future CLIENTS and partners

  1. at the Laval Virtual European fair


In the context of Laval Virtual, the European fair dedicated to virtual technology and its uses, at the end of 2015 Laval Mayenne Technopole and Laval Virtual launched a call for applications from start-ups with a project in the field of virtual and/or augmented reality. 14 of them were chosen and will thus benefit not only from a dedicated, free exhibition space* in the Start-up Area throughout the Laval Virtual Fair (23 to 27 March 2016), but also from significant exposure for their business (each year, the fair hosts on average 5,000 trade visitors of over 40 different nationalities).

  1. 3D Sound Labs (France) - 3D sound software technology and hardware (headphones and motion sensors) for the creation of an immersive audio and true-to-life experience of films, video games and virtual reality.   2. HOLODIA FITNESS (France) - The first country in the world to offer a virtual reality solution dedicated to fitness and sport. A comprehensive virtual coaching and performance-tracking system offers valuable support to help athletes progress. Being able to compete with others locally or on-line tops off the experience, allowing users to recreate the exciting atmosphere of a real sporting event. http://www.holodia.com

  3. Diakse (France) - A solution offering luxury brands, art galleries and e-commerce companies highly realistic customised virtual showrooms. Visitors find themselves immersed in a world where they can move around freely, familiarise themselves with the products in-situ and buy them, all in the comfort of their own home.

  1. Mimesys (France)a leading holographic telecom operator, with two products: Mimesys Studio and Mimesys Live. Mimesys Studio is a tool that allows you to recreate humans in 'holographic' form before reinserting them in a virtual or augmented reality. Mimesys Live recreates, compresses and streams 'holographic humans' in real time.   1. SmartPixels (France)An augmented reality and video-mapping start-up able to augment a moving object without the use of a smartphone or screen. Their patented technology can be used to follow a real object using state-of-the-art projection, transforming its colour and texture in real time, and enlivening it with videos, illustrations or images.

  2. SAS Revinax (France) - Through its app, Surgevry offers immersive training in medical and surgical procedures. By connecting your smartphone to a virtual reality headset, you can take a look at operating techniques and medical devices in detail through immersion in virtual reality. At the vanguard of the virtual training market, Revinax is an expert in the field and wants to roll out this educational application to institutions, private groups and the general public.

  1. Quai des Apps (France) works on services mainly for marketing applications.
The start-up's first projects were for marketing, cultural and educational uses, such as the development of a 3D application to present the new Nespresso machine prior to its release. Today its range has been extended to include scientific and technical applications of virtual and augmented reality.
In 2016 an original augmented reality platform and a virtual reality platform, Olifant, will be developed, enabling several people to immerse themselves and interact with each other remotely in a virtual world.

  2. Covirtua (France) - The first product developed by this virtual reality start-up is medical software for cognitive disorders: COVIRTUA COGNITION. It is an IT solution used to treat cognitive disorders. This software solution will be for use by speech therapists and, to a lesser extent, neuro-psychologists and occupational therapists. The two strands of this solution will be therapy and practice management.

  3. VRTUOZ (France) - Specialised in the creation of virtual reality solutions, the company produces virtual content and applications compatible with all devices. VRTUOZ, for example, is an application that enables users to create a private space where they can host their friends and share content. With VRTUOZ, virtual reality is a social experience where it is possible to visit places inaccessible to us in real life.

  4. Theia (Taiwan) - A company specialised in cutting-edge technologies focussed on 3D optical design. The aim is to offer users a new way of displaying their products. In an immersive virtual environment, users can test a prototype of their end product in real time by displaying it in 3D in the desired environment. In 2016, the start-up is trying to combine its 3D technology with motion recognition, which will enable users to interact with projected objects.

  5. Talent Swarm (Spain) offers a collaborative work environment. The software it has developed is a service platform that collates all data in the Cloud for aviation, industry, construction and defence. It is a virtual 3D environment combining real images and video, where individuals collaborate between the construction site and the office, and where everything is saved to the Cloud.

  6. VRgo Chair (United Kingdom) - A new form of motion controller, which is intuitive and affordable. It is a motion controller device where the body is used for steering. It has all the advantages of any other VR motion controller such as 360° and wireless and hands-free connection, but it is compact, elegant, stable, inexpensive to produce and customisable. The device is a chair, which the user can tilt and turn in all directions.

  7. Senso (Italy) - An innovative company born from the synergy between different areas of expertise in immersive media and architectural design.
Guided by the conviction that the best technology is invisible, and can be elegant and functional without being invasive, Senso S.r.l. aims to create highly immersive and interactive permanent spaces.

  8. Reality Over Technologies (France)Making the world more interactive and more connected in a user-friendly way. Unlike screens and virtual reality, the rationale behind their approach to augmented reality is to give the power back to the physical whilst retaining the flexibility and new options offered by the digital. The start-up is currently offering a development kit, used to create applications that take place entirely in the real world, using interactive projection in particular.
