John E. Anglim was born and raised in Chicago. He studied at the Chicago Acadmey of Fine Arts. After doing anthroplological and archeological art work at Louisiana State University and as a free-lance artist, he joined the Smithsonian as an illustrator the Bureai of American Ethnology in 1942. In 1943, he worked with the OSS. After war, he returned to being a freelance artist and then worked at the Army Map Service, before returning to the Smithsonian in 1949 as an exhibits worker.


In 1954, Anglim became chief exhibits specialist, and in 1959, chief of the office of exhibits. His office created displays for the entire National Museum of History and Technology, which opened in 1964. Later his office helped develop new axhibit for the National Air and Space Museum.

Highly regarded for her clinical and teaching skills, she has major clinical interests in transplant infectious diseases, and travel/topical medicine.
Dr. Anglim served as the USC site director for the Geosentinel Network. This network is a worldwide communications and data collection system of travel and tropical medicine clinics for the surveillance of travel-related morbidity, and is a cooperative project for the International Society for Travel Medicine and the Center for Disease Control and Prevention in Atlanta. She maintains research interest in the environmental influence on the epidemiology of emerging infections. Her recent research projects include a time-space analyis of incent cases of Mycobacterium tuberculosis infection, and a retrospective study of point source outbreaks of coccidioidomycosis.
She is certified by the American Board of Internal Medicine in internal medicine and infectious diseases. She was affiliated with the Associates in Infectious Diseases, Center Commons, in Pittsbrugh, PA.1073

US Army
Civil War Soldiers
Irish immigrants made up a substantial proportion of the union ranks during the Civil War. For many of these immigrants, military service offered the best opportunity to support their families.

It has been observed that many of these immigrant soldiers were substantially shorter than their native-born officers, a fact that has been attributed to deficient nutrition in the home country.



Edward Anglim. Union Army. Private. First Artillery, Company L. Served in Fort Brown Texas, between ca. September 1860 and January 1861. This company left Ft. Brown on September 29th for Ringgold Barracks en route to Fort Duncan. Rept. Orders No. 81 (Special). Sep. 15, 1860. After Texas seceded from the Union, the Federal troops evacuated Ft. Brown on March 20, 1861. They sailed for Key West and Tortugas.

Harold T. Anglim – Graduated from the College of the Holy Cross in Worcester, Mass, in 1913. He was working as a wholesale grocer in Watertown,. SD, when he enlisted on June 13, 1917. During his enlistment, Harold Anglim served in the Calvary and Quartermaster Corps, and became a 2nd Lietenant. He served for 12 monthys with the Calvary at Camp Cody, NM. He transferred to the quartermaster corps and was ordered overseas, serving 11 months at the General Intermediate Supply Depot, Gierves France, and two months with the Army of Occupation at Coblenz, Germany. He was honorably discharged on July 9, 1919.
