October 20, 2014 A regular meeting of the Glen Ridge Board of Education was held on Monday, October 20, 2014 at 7:02 pm at the Glen Ridge High School LGI room.The meeting was held in accordance with applicable NJ Statutes governing public Board of Education meetings. Mr. de Leeuw STATEMENT OF PUBLIC MEETING NOTICE This is a regular meeting of the Glen Ridge Board of Education. Adequate notice of this meeting has been provided in that this Board notified the Glen Ridge Paper and the Star Ledger on February 12, 2014. Said notice was published in the Star Ledger and the Glen Ridge Paper on February 20, 2014. The date, time, and location of this meeting were also emailed to all recipients of the annual schedule of the Board's meetings. John M. Mucciolo, Ph.D., Superintendent Peter Caprio, Business Administrator/Board Secretary 7:05-7:25 pm Executive Session - Room 108 Moved: Mr. Campbell Seconded: Mr. Romano WHEREAS, a matter to be considered by the Board of Education deals with personnel, negotiations and/or possible litigation, and WHEREAS, public disclosure of this matter may be prejudicial to the public good, NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that this matter be considered in a meeting closed to the public; and BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the minutes of this meeting be sealed until the matter is resolved. Adjourn to closed session
Public Session – Mr. de Leeuw motioned to return to public session at 7:25 pm. Mr. Moran seconded the motion. PRESIDENT'S REPORT Ms. Ginsburg discussed the Rockaway Board of Education resolution and asked the Board if they wanted to vote on it at the November meeting. Ms. Ginsburg discussed the 2014-2015 Board goals which will be voted on at the November meeting. SUPERINTENDENT'S REPORT Dr. Mucciolo and Ms. Ginsburg honored the recipients of the 2014 Tradition of Excellence Award winners: Ms. Maira Hernandez-Kinloch and Ms. Debora Travisano. Dr. Mucciolo thanked the Glen Ridge Educational Foundation for their continuing support of the Virtual High School Program and their donation for Language Arts Professional Development for the 2nd year. Mr. Dirk Phillips, Principal at Glen Ridge High School, presented the grades 7-12 testing report. PUBLIC COMMENTS (Agenda Items) The following questions/comments were received from the public: How are the goals prepared Is the new PARCC test vastly different from the NJ ASK Glad to see the 8th grade Language Arts scores went up What is the peer group vs. DFG comparisons What impact will the state test have on college selections Will elite schools care if the test is online instead of using the tradition instrument In the future, how will colleges view the new testing COMMITTEE REPORTS (First meeting of the month only) Curriculum Committee - None Personnel and Policy Committee - None Negotiations Committee - None Finance and Facilities Committee - Mr. Keppel reported the committee discussed the June 30, 2014 surplus and beginning the 2015-2016 budget process. Ad Hoc Committee for Communications - Mr. Campbell reported the next “Coffee and Conversation” will be held on October 23rd at Glen Ridge High School. Al Chiaravallo as the assistant wrestling coach for the 2014-2015 school year. b. Stephanie Colangelo, part-time instruction aide at Linden Avenue School, effective October 17, 2014
P-2 Appointments Moved: Ms. Eisen Seconded: Mr. Campbell Upon the recommendation of the Superintendent, approve the appointment of the following staff for the 2014-2015 school year:
c. Andrew Meyer as a part-time special education aide (replacing C. Varga) at Ridgewood Avenue School on aide step 1 ($18.38 per hour) effective October 21, 2014 through June 30, 2015 (pending completion of the criminal history review). d. Stephanie Fego as a part-time aide (replacing M. Ummak) at Linden Avenue School on aide step 1 ($18.38 per hour) effective October 7, 2014 through June 30, 2015.
P-3 Leave of Absence Moved: Ms. Eisen Seconded: Mr. Campbell Approve a maternity leave of absence to Rachael Hogan, physical education/health teacher at Glen Ridge High School, effective on or about February 23, 2015. Ms. Hogan will utilize her unused sick days as per the Master Agreement. Her anticipated return is June 1, 2015.
P-4 Co-Curricular Advisors Moved: Ms. Eisen Seconded: Mr. Campbell a. Approve Angelo DeFazio as the High School Drama Advisor on guide 3 step 5 year 10 ($7,107) for the 2014-2015 school year.
P-5 Sixth Period Assignments Moved: Ms. Eisen Seconded: Mr. Campbell a. Rescind the 6th period assignment for Kevin Lagos for the 2014-2015 school year.
P-6 Extra Duty Stipend Moved: Ms. Eisen Seconded: Mr. Campbell Approve an extra duty stipend for Mary Lynn Savio in the amount of $3,089.50 for the 2014-2015 school year.
P-7 Extend Leave of Absence Moved: Ms. Eisen Seconded: Mr. Campbell Approve an extension of the leave of absence for Danielle Zieser, Spanish teacher at Glen Ridge High School, for the remainder of the 2014-2015 school year. Ms. Zieser’s anticipated return is September 2015.
P-8 Substitutes Moved: Ms. Eisen Seconded: Mr. Campbell a. Approve the addition of Olivia Perrucci to the substitute list for the 2014-2015 school year.
