09/94-Present Georgia State University, The Cecil B. Day School of Hospitality Administration, Atlanta, GA. Assistant and Associate Professor. Instructed courses, completed research activities and advised undergraduate students. Instructed undergraduate courses in hospitality strategic planning, private club management, hospitality marketing, and travel & tourism. Reviewed by the Graduate Faculty Membership Committee and granted Graduate Faculty Status. Acting Director for the School in the Fall and Summer Semesters of 2000.


06/91-08/94 University of Houston, The Conrad Hilton College of Hotel and Restaurant Management, Houston, TX. Assistant Professor. Instructed courses, completed research activities and advised both graduate and undergraduate students. Instructed graduate courses in hospitality marketing, hospitality research methods, and advanced marketing. Instructed undergraduate courses in private club management and hotel/restaurant development.
12/90-05/91 Club Corporation of America, Kingwood, TX. Associate Manager. Responsible for the analysis of operations of clubs in the Houston area (Deerwood Club, Houston City Club, Kingwood Country Club and University Club). Activities included assisting club managers in market analysis, market positioning, marketing plans, strategic planning, membership programs, operation ratios, food and beverage operations, financial performance, etc.
04/90-11/90 Northland Country Club, Duluth, MN. Interim General Manager. Responsible for operations of a private country club with over 500 members including an 18 hole golf course, pro shop, driving range, golf course snack bar, outdoor swimming pool and three lighted tennis courts. The clubhouse consisted of a main dining room, ballroom, grill room, lounge, three additional private dining rooms, patio dining area and locker rooms. Food and beverage changes implemented in the areas of operations, financial control, service, menus and training increased monthly revenues by an average of 4.15 percent. Reported directly to Board of Directors.
06/83-05/90 The College of St. Scholastica, Duluth, MN. Associate Professor. Instructed introduction to business, principles of management, introduction to marketing, and marketing research courses in the Management Department. Director of Sport and Recreation Management Program. Conducted a feasibility study, designed the curriculum, developed and implemented an undergraduate program in Sport and Recreation Management that emphasized private club management. Conducted marketing for the program, curriculum development, recruitment and supervision of faculty, acquisition of equipment, program evaluation, development of numerous promotional materials and other administrative duties. Developed and instructed specific upper-level courses in private club management. Student enrollment exceeded each year's goal. Program evolved into a separate department of which I was appointed the Chairperson. Title III grant administrator for program development and implementation. National internship program was developed. Promoted from Assistant to Associate Professor and granted tenure. Chair and assistant chair positions on committees that planned graduate programs in the departments of Management, Nursing and Physical Therapy. Coordinator of Coaching Licensure Program. Redesigned the curriculum, directed and instructed in the Department of Education's Coaching Licensure Program. Monitored the curriculum to ensure that it annually met Minnesota's State Board Of Education requirements for Licensure. Placed and supervised students' practicums in secondary schools (similar experience to student teaching).
07/82-05/83 Houston Center Club (Club Corporation of America), Houston, TX. Manager. Directed the programs and activities of an exclusive for-profit city/athletic club (52,000 sq. ft.). Responsible for development and implementation of new programs and policies, development of annual marketing plan, supervision of club personnel, supervision of departments and the monitoring of their financial goals and objectives. Club revenues increased by 18 percent to 4.5 million dollars. Marketing plan implemented increased membership to 1,200.
11/80-06/82 Johns Hopkins Medical Institutions - Denton A. Cooley Center, Baltimore, MD. Center Manager and Coordinator. Responsibilities included the establishment, development and implementation of all programs and policies in a new private city-athletic club (46,000 sq. ft.) for the medical staff. Supervised construction, development of long range and annual business plans, hiring and training of staff, approved all capital and equipment purchases, policy formation, and the development of an overall marketing plan for the new Center. Achieved second year goal of 925 memberships.
04/78-10/80 West Hillandale Swim and Tennis Club, Silver Spring, MD. General Manager. Responsible for administering and directing the total operations of this private club consisting of 850 members. Responsibilities included managing three departments: aquatics, food and beverage and operations. Directed the administration, supervision and planning of all programs, facilities, personnel, marketing, advertising and fiscal budgets. Reported directly to Board of Directors. Assistant swim team coach.
05/76-10/78 Cheverly Swim and Racquet Club, Cheverly, MD. General Manager. Directly managed four areas: aquatics, tennis, food and beverage and operations. Responsible for the management of this 900 member private club. Administered, supervised and planned: social events, programs, policies, facility renovations, personnel, marketing, advertising, and fiscal budget. Reported directly to Board of Directors.
