Academic Summer Opportunities for Gifted/Talented

Middle School Students
Attention: Students entering 9th grade in the fall

Most program applications are due between Feb & May. Some require a signature or letter from a gifted resource teacher. Many have partial or full scholarships available. Browse early & plan ahead to make the most of your summer!

MSU Summer Challenge: Murray State University

One-week residential program for gifted students completing 5th -8th; fee is $435.

Summer Camp for Academically Talented Middle School Students: SCATS

WKU- Two- week residential program for students completing 6th, 7th, or 8th grade

Program cost: $1500, non-residential option available.

Verbally and Mathematically Precocious Youth: VAMPY

WKU- Three-week residential program for students completing 7th – 10th grade

Eligible students must have qualifying ACT or SAT scores for area of study

Cost is $2200 for three weeks. Apply early for best chance at class preferences.

Vanderbilt Summer Academy: VSA

One-week program for students completing 7th grade ($1250)

Two-week program for students completing 8th grade ($2150)

Pathways and Access to Careers in Technology: PACT at KSU

For students who have completed the 5th, 6th, or 7th grade

Essay required for application; Selective program for students who are

working at or above grade level – FREE of charge

For gifted students who have completed 6th grade or above

For students currently in 7th – 10th grade with qualifying ACT or SAT score

Auburn Summer Experience

Residential, one week programs, most between $500 - $700

Offers programs in architecture, industrial design, engineering, creative writing,

veterinary, leadership, and many more; open to all students

Math Path: Advanced Summer Camp

Residential, four-week program; limited two week students accepted.

Students ages 11-14 may apply to the Colorado College program

Fee: $4500 ($2500 for two week option) For students who show high promise.

School-Year Opportunities
Weekend Academy at Vanderbilt University: WAVU (Winter)

For students currently in grades 7 and above; Cost for residential weekend- $400.

Requires Duke TIP qualification or eligibility by achievement test or SAT/ACT

Super Saturdays

For students with high ability or high interest, grades 1-8

Four Saturdays each session; Fall and Winter sessions available. Cost $80

Register early for best class choice. Signature required from school personnel.
