REVENUE

February 2017 revenue totaled $433,114 … down very slightly (0.2%) from last February but more than $13,000 below budget on account of a jet hangar vacancy that lasted longer than planned (the vacancy was filled at the end of February). Year-to-date revenue is still $21,000 over budget.

OPERATIONS

February operations totaled 7,386 … a figure that has remained oddly consistent for four months in a row. Itinerant IFR operations totaled 2,793 for the month, a 4% improvement over January but still below the benchmark of 3,000 that we prefer to see. International operations totaled a respectable 42 for the month, with 32 arrivals and 10 departures. It is fairly typical to see a drop-off in operations in February for two reasons: first, at only 28 days, February is 2 or 3 days shorter than every other month; and second, it is a winter month in which the weather is not typically conducive to VFR flying. The weather in February was milder than usual, so this February was a relatively good month overall.

FUEL

February fuel flowage totaled 523,353 gallons, exceeding January’ result by 30,000 gallons and budget projections by almost 38,000 gallons. In terms of fuel sales, February was a surprisingly good month. Year-to-date fuel flowage still lags about 40,000 gallons behind projections but with a good spring (March-April-May) that deficit could easily be made up.

AIRPORT TURNING 60 YEARS OLD

Addison Airport opened for business on October 18, 1957. The airport was built by six Dallas-area businessmen on land that was previously owned by a farmer and lifelong Addison resident named Guy Dennis. When the airport opened, much of the surrounding area was cotton fields and Addison was a small and newly-founded municipality (established in 1953) beyond the north outskirts of Dallas. Sixty years later, the airport is at the heart of a dense urban center. In recognition of the sixty-year anniversary of the airport, a history of the airport will be published later this year. Some events are being planned as well, including an airport-wide barbeque on the October 18 anniversary date.

ADDISON WELCOMES WING AVIATION

At the February 28 meeting, Addison’s City Council approved a 10-year lease with Wing Aviation for the hangar and office complex at 4555 Glenn Curtiss Drive. Wing Aviation is a large Part 135 Charter operator with headquarters at Houston Hobby Airport; their initial plan is to base four aircraft at Addison. The Addison facility will be home to more than a dozen employees including flight crew, dispatchers, maintenance, and customer service personnel.

As noted in the December 2016 monthly report, the airport plans to build a connector from the Wing Aviation ramp to Taxilane Uniform, where none exists now and access to the taxilane is through an adjoining ramp. The airport engineers (Garver) have been tasked with design of this project, which is a high priority for both the airport and our new tenant. Design is not expected to take long; the project should be ready to go out for bids in June, and it is likely that construction can be completed in September.
