Alden Update February 29, 2016
Hello Alden Families:
Our monthly respect theme for March is Caring. Mrs. Fryar and Mrs. Miele’s classes will be leading the assembly this month.

Please enjoy the following video that highlights our Fourth and Fifth Grade Celebration of Learning nights. http://touchcast.com/alden/b8cdc3358a/

Reminder: Tuesday, March 1 is an early release day (10:35am). Teachers will be enjoying math professional development.
Due to the two snow days, the last day of school for students is now Monday, June 20.
Science Fair is coming – April 2. Registration will be open Feb. 22- March 11. There is a link under Hot Topic on the Alden website for information.
PARCC testing dates are April 25- June 6. Once the schedule gets finalized your child’s teacher will share with you the dates they will be testing. It is not done by grade level this year as it is computer based so we are scheduling at various times and days.
We had a wonderful week with our author Paul Janeczko. Thank you to the PTA for all of their support with this program. Our students really enjoyed his poetry.
Alden Family Pizza and Bingo Night – Friday, March 4 from 5:30-7:30pm Buy your tickets today!   We’ve got bingo, pizza, cake and an awesome silent auction in the works.  This event is so much fun – you don’t want to miss it!

Parents of 5th graders are invited to attend a Course Selection Information Night on Wednesday April 13, 2016 at 7:00 pm in the PAC and fifth graders will have a Course Selection Assembly on Friday April 15, 2016 at 9:00 am in the Presentation Hall at DMS.

Duxbury Middle School staff will present information on the courses that 5th graders will be taking next year and to explain the sign up process on Aspen. A letter will be sent home in early April with Aspen student login and password information. Fifth graders will be able to select their courses on the student portal of Aspen from April 15-29, 2016.
If Alden students need to be evacuated during the day for any reason, please know that parents will receive a connect ed message outlining important information. We have a plan in place and a location where students would be relocated. This was a discussion at our Alden School Council meeting and I wanted all parents to feel comfortable that we certainly have a plan in place.

Wednesday, March 2 – Happy Birthday Dr. Seuss – Students are invited to dress up like their favorite Dr. Seuss character or wear wacky socks, or wear Red, White and Black in honor of Dr. Seuss.
Spirit Day is Friday, March 4th. Ms. Lamare’s class decided it would be an International Day – anything that reflects another country.
