Shortly after her transatlantic flight, piloting Avian 7083, Earhart embarked upon her first long solo flight. She made the trip in August 1928, becoming the first woman to fly solo across the North American continent and back. Gradually her aviation skills and professionalism grew, garnering her praise from the experienced professional pilots who flew with her. General Leigh Wade, who flew with Earhart in 1929, remarked, "She was a born flier, with a delicate touch on the stick."
