Occidental College has been playing baseball for over 100 years and has a rich tradition. Coach Wetmore took over in 2012 and the Tigers immediately became competitive in the Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference, finishing in the top half of the conference each season. The roster is made up of players from across the country that are committed to competing on the baseball field and in the classroom. Playing baseball in the sunny southern California weather is an added bonus. ______________________________________________________________________________PACIFIC UNIVERSITY OREGON, Forest Grove, OR Head Coach - Brian Billings Pacific University is a Division III private Liberal Arts University, located in Forest Grove, OR. Forest Grove is located 20 miles outside of Portland, and about 50 miles from the coast in the beautiful Pacific Northwest. Pacific itself has just under 1900 undergrads, with an 11-1 student to professor ratio! Exercise Science is the main degree at Pacific, with many majors in the field and also grad schools, including Pharmacy, PT, OT, and hosts the number one Optometry school in the country. Pacific also offers a School of Business, and just about every major out there. With small class sizes and a prestigious education, Pacific is definitely an incredible place to attend for your education. Pacific itself is over 40% athletes, hosting 29 varsity sports, and 9 junior varsity. This gives the athletic programs here at Pacific a ‘big school’ feel for fan base. Our baseball program is fortunate to have some of the best facilities in the country for D3, including a 3 million dollar stadium, 60 yard turfed indoor facility, and a brand new clubhouse. We are one of four schools to win a Northwest Conference title since 2009, and have made big strides under third year Head Coach Brian Billings. Last season the program finished 25-18 and advanced to the NWC conference tournament. Go Boxers! ______________________________________________________________________________POMONA-PITZER, Pomona, CA Head Coach - Frank Pericolosi Pomona College and Pitzer College are independent liberal arts institutions located in Claremont, California at the base of the San Gabriel mountains, 35 miles east of Los Angeles. Both schools are members of The Claremont Colleges; a consortium of five liberal arts colleges and two graduate institutions. Pomona College has a student body of 1600 and is considered to be a Top 5 liberal arts college nationally. Pitzer College has an enrollment of 1100 and is also considered a highly selective liberal arts institution. Student-athletes at Pomona College and Pitzer College combine to play for the Pomona-Pitzer Baseball program. Competing at the NCAA Division III level as a member of the Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC), Pomona-Pitzer has established itself as one of the top programs in the nation over the past decade. SAN DIEGO STATE, San Diego, CA Head Coach – Mark Martinez San Diego State is a public university in San Diego, CA. San Diego is a city that attracts several people from around the world as a vacation destination because of the great weather. Within an hour, you can visit the beach, mountains, or desert. The university gets around 100,000 applicants per year and is one of the top 10 most applied to colleges in the nation. The business school is the flagship program at SDSU and is ranked one of the Top 25 Business and International Business schools in the country. San Diego State University is a Division I program, playing in the Mountain West conference. The program has been to 4 of the last 6 Division I regional tournaments. Currently several former Aztecs are working their way through the professional ranks, while a few former players are in the MLB. San Diego State is the only school in the country to have 2 Golden Spikes Award winners and an MLB Hall of Famer (Stephen Strasburg, Travis Lee, Tony Gwynn). The Santa Clara University Baseball Program has just completed it's 6th season with Head Coach Dan O’Brien at the helm. In that time the Broncos have seen improvements across the board both on the field and off. The team made its first post-season appearance since 1997, in 2014 with a trip to the WCC Playoffs and a 16-11 record in WCC play. In 2015 the Broncos had two first team All-WCC players, Jose Vizcaino Jr., and Reece Karalus who were drafted in the 7th and 8th rounds respectively. The 2016 Broncos had three players drafted, Mitchell White (Red Shirt Sophomore, RHP) in the 2nd round to the Los Angeles Dodgers, Max Kuhns (Junior, RHP) in the 21st round to the New York Mets, and Stevie Berman (Junior, C) in the 31st round to the Los Angeles Dodgers. White was 4th in the nation at the Division I level in strikeouts in 2016 and tied Randy Winn for the highest drafted player in Santa Clara history, going 65th overall. 2016 also saw Kuhns set a school record for single season saves, and rank 4th in the nation in the same category. Santa Clara is one of only two schools in the West Coast Conference to have it's recruiting classes ranked in Perfect Game's Top 100 classes for 4 of the last 6 years. More than that the Broncos have graduated 7 engineering majors, and 12 business majors in the last 6 years, and boast a team GPA over a 3.0. ______________________________________________________________________________SIERRA COLLEGE Head Coach – Rob Willson Sierra College, a California community college, has its main campus located in Rocklin, California. Rocklin is located in the foothills of the Sierra Nevada Mountains, approximately twenty minutes from the state capital of Sacramento. The College was officially founded in 1936 and is fully accredited by the Western Association of Schools and Colleges. It was established as "Placer Junior College". In 1954 the college was renamed "Sierra College" with a wolverine as the mascot. Approximately 125 degree and certificate programs are offered in a wide variety of configurations taught by 216 full and 650 part-time faculty members. Sierra College participates in the Big 8 Conference, and is a member of the California Community College Athletic Association. The 2008 season was a magical season for the Wolverines. Sierra College captured its first ever State Championship in baseball and set a school record with 39 wins. Many consider California Community College baseball to be the most competitive and difficult sport in which to capture a state title. Strong pitching, outstanding defense and timely hitting propelled the Wolverines to this championship. Even more gratifying for Coach Wilson is that the 2008 team continued the 5-year streak of graduating 100% of their sophomores to 4-year universities. SOUTHWESTERN COLLEGE, Winfield, KS Head Coach – Kevin Frady Southwestern College is a four-year private higher educational institution affiliated with the United Methodist Church located in Winfield, Kansas, United States. It was founded in 1885 as Southwest Kansas Conference College and graduated its first class of 3 in June 1889. The name of the school was changed to its current form in 1909. The main campus is a laptop learning community, with laptop computers provided to all incoming students. An emphasis on service learning has led to nationally-recognized programs in leadership, discipleship, and sustainability (green issues). In addition to bachelor's degrees, several master's programs give undergraduate students the option of completing a graduate degree. Its doctoral degree in education started during the summer of 2012. The 2018 Spring will mark the first season of competition for Builders Baseball since 1950. ______________________________________________________________________________ST. MARY’S UNIVERSITY, Moraga, CA Head Coach – Eric Valenzuela Saint Mary’s College of California is in close proximity to Oakland, San Francisco, and the entire bay area. The institution is remotely tucked away in the stunning hills of Moraga, CA. This offers attentiveness to athletics and academics at Saint Mary’s. Saint Mary’s is a four year private institution, which offers bachelor’s degrees, post baccalaureate certificates, master’s degrees, and doctorate degrees. The student population consists of around 4,030 students, and 2,940 of which are undergraduates. The student-to-faculty ratio is 11 to 1, which shows the very hands on environment of Saint Mary’s. Saint Mary’s has created a student-centered educational community, where all members fully support one another with mutual understanding and respect. The Saint Mary’s Gaels compete in the West Coast Conference. The 2016 spring season consisted of having many highlights. The Gaels would win the West Coast Conference regular season title, as well as a conference tournament championship. The season concluded with more success in the MLB draft. Three Gaels were selected in the top 10 rounds of the draft and a fourth selected inside of round 20. Head coach Eric Valenzuela was also honored with winning the West Coast Conference Coach the Year award. The West Coast Conference is one of the most challenging conferences in the nation, and the Gaels have a very challenging Division I out-of-conference schedule on top of this. The Saint Mary’s Gaels baseball program consists of having high standards in both academics and athletics, and do what is necessary for student athletes to succeed in both avenues. STANFORD UNIVERSITY, Palo Alto, CA Head Coach - Mark Marquess Stanford University, officially Leland Stanford Junior University, is a private research university in Stanford, California, and one of the world's most prestigious institutions. Stanford was founded in 1885 by Leland Stanford, former Governor of and U.S. Senator from California and leading railroad tycoon, and his wife, Jane Lathrop Stanford, in memory of their only child, Leland Stanford, Jr., who had died of typhoid fever at age 15 the previous year. Stanford admitted its first students on October 1, 1891 as a coeducational and non-denominational institution. Tuition was free until 1920. The university struggled financially after Leland Stanford's 1893 death and again after much of the campus was damaged by the 1906 San Francisco earthquake. Following World War II, Provost Frederick Terman supported faculty and graduates' entrepreneurialism to build self-sufficient local industry in what would later be known as Silicon Valley. By 1970, Stanford was home to a linear accelerator, and was one of the original four ARPANET nodes (precursor to the Internet). Swarthmore College is a private liberal arts and engineering institution located 11 miles west of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Annually recognized as one of the top 5 liberal arts colleges in the country, Swarthmore is known for its challenging honors program, summer research and job-shadowing programs, and close-knit community. With a student/faculty ratio of 8:1, Swarthmore’s 1650 undergraduates enjoy small classes and individualized course work in over 40 fields of study.
