AUTHORIAL VOICE: Jane is both the subject & author of this fictional autobiography. Through her AUTHORIAL VOICE, she inserts her present-self into the story through the use of rhetorical questions and examples of direct address (Dear Reader).

ASSIGNMENT:

  1. Skim through your assigned chapters and mark 5-8 examples of AUTHORIAL VOICE. Look for significant examples – examples that we can use to discuss Jane’s development.

  2. Make a list with brief notes on the context of each example.

  3. Draw conclusions about what you understand about Jane’s progression from these examples.
