Android Jelly Bean

A lot of people who want to sell an iPad are now seriously thinking twice about doing this. The recent success of the Google Nexus 7 has made people want to shift to Android-based tablet PCs especially since the Jelly Bean was just released. This newest version of Android was released just six months after the release of the 4.0 version called Ice Cream Sandwich. A lot of people were expecting that Google would be making some major changes when they released their next version. They thought that they might use their I/O 2012 as the launching pad for the software. However, instead of a huge upgrade, the new software just provided a few new features.

Many people are saying that the new Android Jelly Bean is just a numerical jump from the barely a year old Ice Cream Sandwich. Others say that the new 4.1 version is just a slight refinement of its Ice Cream Sandwich predecessor. Critics are saying the Jelly Bean was released just so that they could say that it has new software exclusively available right now for their brand new gadget, the Nexus 7. There is still no word when the 4.1 Jelly Bean will be available for use with their other devices. This is actually not surprising because there are still a lot of Android devices that have not even shifted to 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich. Many of the products that are Android-based are still using Froyo and Gingerbread.

Jelly Bean reviews have been positive so far. The improved performance includes faster and smoother response. Sync timing for all animation and drawing has been extended. Moreover, graphics buffering has been tripled, and the system is more responsive, anticipating a user's finger movement. To decrease latency, CPU input has been boosted. The notifications bar now shows more details, so notifications can be accessed without having to open the particular app associated with the notification. Widgets can now be resized and a user can dictate information even when offline. Of course, to rival Apple's Siri, Jelly Bean has introduced a voice command that lets users ask questions in Google Search. They will then dictate back the answers.

The slow moving pace of shifting the Android-based devices to use the new platforms could be the reason for the low positive response to the new offering of the Android software. Also, based on reviews there are no overly major changes of the Jelly Bean if you are coming from the Ice Cream Sandwich. This makes shifting from the Froyo and Gingerbread versions to the Ice Cream Sandwich version more significant in terms of usability. However, there has been word that the first devices to get an upgrade will be the Samsung Galaxy Nexus, the Motorola Xoom, and the Google Nexus S.
