3rd MUSIC COMPOSITION COMPETITION of SACRED MUSIC

"Antiphonal Psalms" year 2012
Premise

The Italian Federation ‘Pueri Cantores’, while getting their songs from "classic" repertoire of sacred music from Gregorian chant to this day, feels, however, the need to broaden their horizons by stimulating the composition of new songs for vocal choirs.

In order to promote the creation and dissemination of a new repertoire of sacred music dedicated especially to the Pueri Cantores, the Italian Federation issues the following:

ANNOUNCEMENT of COMPETITION and REGULATION
Art. 1 The Italian Federation ‘Pueri Cantores’ announces the 3rd Contest of Sacred music Composition “Antiphonal Psalms”, year 2012.
Art. 2 The competition is organised by the Italian Federation of ‘Pueri Cantores’, with the patronage of the International Federation of ‘Pueri Cantores’ and FENIARCO
Art. 3 In the contest can participate musicians of any nationality and citizenship, without age limits.
Art. 4 The competition is dedicated to the composition of Antiphonal Psalms with one or more voices, text given in Italian or Latin, at the choice of the composer. The Psalms may be sung ‘a cappella’ (unaccompanied) or accompanied by organ. It is recommended to keep the compositions within the liturgical time limits of a psalm inside the Mass to allow proper liturgical usability. The length might be parameter of judgement.
Art. 5 The texts of the Psalms are those relating to the following festivals: Immaculate Conception, Christmas (Mass of the night), Easter (Mass of the day) and Pentecost.
Art. 6 The texts to be set to music are enclosed to this announcement, but they can also be downloaded from the website of the Italian Federation, or may be requested to the Secretariat.
Art. 7 The four compositions must be unheard, unpublished and never be awarded in previous contests; six copies of each of them must reach the ‘Segreteria della Federazione Italiana’ - via E. Fermi, 7 – I-95014 Giarre (CT) within the midnight of 17th June 2012.
Art. 8 It is not provided for the payment of application fees.
Art. 9 Each score must be marked by an alphabetical and/or numerical code, made up of seven letters and/or numbers; this same code must also be written on the outside of a sealed envelope containing the general information and delivery (address and telephone number) of the composer and a handwritten declaration certifying that the compositions submitted are original (unheard and unpublished) and have never been awarded in previous contests. The copies must be in A4 format, readable and without any signature or any identifying marks, under penalty of exclusion from the competition.
Art. 10 The sealed envelopes containing the General information and delivery of the composers, will be kept in a safe by the Secretariat. After the jury has declared the winner of the contest and the ranking of the first places, the envelopes relating to winners will be opened, while the others will be destroyed.
Art. 11 The assessment will be made by a jury composed of the artistic Committee of the Italian Federation in addition to some external member of undisputed national and international reputation, chosen by the Federation itself.
Art. 12 The jury's judgement is unquestionable and final.
Art. 13 The author of the winning compositions will receive the trophy "3rd Composition Competition Pueri Cantores" and a prize of 500 euros.
Art. 14 Also the 2nd and 3rd classified will be awarded, respectively with 400 and 300 euros. All winning works will be published in one volume.
Art. 15 The award ceremony will take place at a significant moment in the life of the Federation..
Art. 16 The scores sent will not be returned.
Art. 17 All rights will be of interest to the Italian Federation of Pueri Cantores
Art. 18 The application to the contest by sending compositions implies the unconditional acceptance by the applicants of all the rules laid down by this regulation. Any disputes that arise in connection with this contest will be resolved amicably and on an equitable basis, without the constraints of the form, by a panel of three Eligible Viri. Two will be chosen by each of the parties and the third shall be appointed by the President of the Italian Federation of ‘Pueri Cantores’. The jurisdiction will, in any case, to Pordenone, home of the current Presidency.
Art. 19 The direction of Competition reserves the right to make any changes deemed necessary to this regulation or not to make the contest owing to exceptional circumstances of force majeure, excluding any compensation in any way for competitors. Any changes will be promptly posted on the website www.puericantores.it.
