I took part in repair and maintenance of:

  • During the overhaul of the vessel, I assisted with the replacement of the crankshaft bearings on the 2 and 5 cylinders of the main engine - the places that, according to the tests, are the places of greatest wear;

  • Maintenance and pressing of the main engine injectors;

  • Assisted when replacing high-pressure fuel pumps of the main engine;

  • Cleaning of fuel and ballast tanks, oil residue tank;

  • Disassembly, cleaning, replacement of gaskets and assembly of separators, cleaning the casing of separators from sludge;

  • Maintenance of mooring winches: capstan and windlass, oil change, lubrication;

  • Prevention of the cargo derrick that is used for lifeboat launching, the replacement of hydraulic oil;

  • Operation and maintenance of diesel generators, including emergency diesel generator, their start-up and stop;

  • Replacement of hydraulic oil on anchor-mooring equipment, winches and derricks;

  • Cleaning of the boiler furnace;

  • Measure the density and perform battery maintenance;

  • Maintained cleanliness and order when working in the engine room;

  • Replacement of the bearing on the hot water pump;

  • Replacement of the membrane on the pneumatic valve separator;

  • Taking part in mooring operations;

  • Performed part of the work received from the engineer;

  • Assisted in various works in the engine room.

  • Carried out painting works in the engine room.

Learned to:

  • Maintain ship's technical facilities in accordance with the rules and instructions established by the manufacturer;

  • Carry out a number of repair works, maintain equipment, to do the troubleshoot of technical equipment;

  • Maintain the boiler and its control instrumentation;

  • Prepare for the start and to start the main engine;

  • To start and put in parallel one of the diesel generators, an emergency diesel generator;

  • To use the LSA, start a lifeboat motor, life raft launching devices;

  • Use fire-extinguishing devices, including fire-extinguishing devices in the engine room;

  • To act operatively in case of alarms, quickly perform my duties and instructions, make decisions depending on the situation;

  • Under the supervision of a Chief Engineer, I made up weekly and monthly reports, as well as orders for necessary supplies;

  • Studied the ship system schemes and knew how to read them.

In case of alarms:to proceed at my Muster Station, and then, depending on the type of alarm:

MOB: Prepare the lifeboat motor for start, take part in lifeboat launching, fixing its stern line;

Ship abandoning: Assist the cook in collecting water and provisions; take the place next to the life raft on the starboard side and wait for further instructions;

Firefighting: Bring and prepare for use fire hoses and nozzles, close the ship's ventilation shafts, assist the member (members) of the fire team.

Carry out work and maintenance:

  • Auxiliary diesel generators, pumps, systems and their service machinery;

  • Air compressors;

  • The lifeboat engine, preparing it for start;

  • To do the start and maintenance of the emergency diesel generator;

  • Fuel and oil separators, start-up and maintenance of the fuel preparation system;

07.11.2016 - 18.05.2017 – I worked from the company Briese Schiffahrts GmbH & Co. KG, on dry cargo vessel m/v "Richelieu", as an Engine Room cadet. During the work the vessel was under repair, after which the Register survey was conducted. At the end of the work I received a promotion from the Chief Engineer for the position of the Third Engineer.

During my work I have got an excellent marine practice, where I gained experience in maintenance and repair of various engine room machineries.


The most important qualities in my work I guess are responsibility, quick reaction and the right decisions, prompt actions in case of emergency situations, paying attention to the safe working practice, including the work dangerous places! In my work periodically there was a need for different repairs. In this case one of my main traits is shown - I do not leave my workplace until the problem is solved and the machinery is put into operation. At the end of the work, I try to make sure that the performed work was done correctly.
During my work at sea I have obtained as professional skills so as well the skills in work with various ship power plants. I always try to help with when working with Engineers on the higher position, to learn from their experience.
The scope of my competence:

  • Prepare for start-up, parallel input and output of one of the diesel generators;

  • taking part in the maintenance and repair of the main engine;

  • taking part in the maintenance and repair of auxiliary engines;

I like to get new skills and knowledge on my specialty, I try to get experience and practice when working with a qualified crew in order to improve my own skills and I like to do self-education not only when I am on the ship, but also when I am on the shore.
I read and understand various schemes of ship systems. I always try to take part of the work of Engineers of the higher position; I always listen to their opinion and consult with them for further experience.

While working on the ship "Richelieu" under the supervision of a Chief Engineer, I worked with weekly and monthly reports that were sent to the company, as well as prepared the orders for necessary spare parts and supplies.
