Atlantic Canada Material Culture Assignment

A Written Report & A “Did You Know” Poster

(outcomes: 2.1, 2.3)
Purpose: Investigate how the following examples of material culture reflect the physical

landscape and climate of Atlantic Canada and how the physical environment shapes

material culture.

Topic: Choose ONE: covered bridges, widow’s walks, lighthouses, dykes, causeways,

breakwaters



Length: Your report must be ½ to 1 page (typed, double-spaced, 12 pt. font).

Your poster must be on standard size (8.5”x11”) paper.



Written Report Requirements: Include a title, the history, the purpose of the

item, references as well as an explanation of how this item

reflects the landscape and climate of Atlantic Canada.

Did You Know” Poster Requirements: Include the words “Did You Know,” a picture, and one

interesting fact that reflects Atlantic Canadian material

culture.
What to Hand In: Your research notes, your good copy which includes your references, a

“Did You Know” poster, and this page.

Remember that all your writing must be in your own words.

  1. Research: remember to take notes in your own words and to always write down where your information comes from (references). These notes will be handed in.
