2620 AUST WW2 DIED ON SERVICE MERITORIOUS, LONG SERVICE GROUP OF FOUR. 1939-45 BWM and ASM (Impressed VP1578 G.T.Pippard), Permanent Forces of the Empire Beyond the seas Long Service and Good Conduct Medal (GVR) (engraved No.1578 BOMB G.T. Pippard.RAA.), Commonwealth of Australia Meritorious Service Medal (GVR) (engraved No.1578 CSM (WOII) G.T. Poppard AIC). WO class one George Pippard enlisted in the permanent Military Forces February 1908 and to RAGA. Dish Feb 1922. Re-enlisted January 1924 and to 3rd Engineer Fortress Coy. For duty in the 1920's to 40's as Skipper of the Army launch "Mars" which plied between Queenscliff and Portsea in Victoria. Died of a heart attack on the "Mars" 6th June 1945. Flight sergeant, pilot, 431 SQN.-only Aussie on the crew of his aircraft when it was lost on 18/11/1943). Operations in New Britain April and May 1945 with 4th Field Ambulance. To AIF and volunteered to serve anywhere overseas. To 55/53rd Infantry BN January 1946. Later NGIB Feb 1946. Discharged April 1961. Awarded Pacific Star and British War Medal. Entitlement for the ASM ruled through on the medal slip but appears elsewhere in the dossier.
