Findings and Recommendations: 1. The participants were satisfied with the facilitators and the presentations on various subjects, including the introduction to information exchange under the IPPC as well as IPP, NPPO information exchange obligations, role of IPPC official contact points, etc. and with the practical session.
2. The help menu should be gone through first instead of going straight to the practical session.
3. An example should be taken and a demonstration given of how to input data, i.e. in optional reporting, followed by a detailed explanation of why and when they should be used and each participant assigned their own practical example..
4. More demonstration on each section was required, especially for the participants who do not have a good working knowledge of computers
5. There was some concern about putting up information live onto IPP without prior clearance or approval. Facilitators should give examples of the types of information that could be safely entered.
Further improvement of the front page of the IPP and the speed of accessing IPPC website is needed.
The news section should be divided into RPPO, NPPO and IPPC, based on the various interests and needs of the regions and countries.
In addition to the regional training, Member countries urgently need assistance with national training to enhance the capacity for using IPP as the main information exchange tool on phytosanitary measures.
The next Regional International Phytosanitary Portal (IPP) Pilot Workshop for APPPC member countries will be held in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia at the end of April or the beginning of May 2005 (to be finalized), which will be hosted by the Crop Protection and Plant Quarantine Division of the Department of Agriculture, Malaysia according to the previous letter of agreement (LOA) with the Secretariat of IPPC.
