SOME IMPORTANT POINTS:

  1. If a is to the left of b then b is to the right of a similarly approach is adopted in directions problems also.

  2. Reverse approach : this means that if you are moving say to purchase something from the mall from your house first you walked 5m turned left walked a 25m distance then you again turned left walked 160m distance the you turned right and walked 400m distance and reached the mall then while returning the directions would be reversed ie walk 400m then turn left walk 160m then turn right walk 25m and turn right finally walk 5m and you will reach your house.

  3. Face to face : say x and y are standing facing each other face to face and y is facing north. This means that y is standing in south and since x is face to face hence x is facing south and is standing in the north.

  4. At the time of sunrise sun rises in the east and shadow falls on the west. Illustration: Say at the time of sunrise ram shadow fell on the right of shyam, then in which direction is shyam facing? How to approach? Since this is morning and we know that shadow will fall on the west and this west is the right of shyam that means shyam is on the left of west which is south.

  5. At the time of sunset, sun sets in the west and shadow falls on the east. Again the same approach would be adopted which we have just discussed in point no 4.

  6. At 12 noon the rays of sun are vertically downward hence no shadow. ( straight line is formed and so the shadow gets covered by the original)

  7. Use the concept of hypotenuse or Pythagoras theorem wherever required for instance while finding the shortest distance between two points.

  8. There are questions in which various directions and distance will be provided and finally directions are asked, in such question ignore the distance and only focus on direction, this will save lot of time for you which you can utilize in solving other questions.

  9. Polar bear is always found on the north pole and its fur is white in color.

  10. Clockwise is right anticlockwise is left (12 = north, 3 = east, 6 = south, 9 = west)

  1. If the same entity is say 20th from left and 30th from right, then to find the total add the two and then subtract 1 [(20+30)-1=49]

  2. Between the two (difference -1) [(30-20)-1 =9]

  3. If total given and position from left given then [(total-left)+1] = position from right, and vice versa.

  4. In 26 letters say if a letter is 20th from the left that means it is 7th from the right(26-20)+1, similarly if 3rd from the left then it is 24th from right (26-3)+1. 2ND from right means 25th from left. (26-2)+1.

  5. The same rule applies while finding a no of students , children and other such question. Eg: in a class of 37 students ram is 18th from the top then what is his position from the bottom (37-18)+1= 20.

  6. If total entity given and position of one from left and other from right is given then to find the entities between two is = (position from left + position from right)-- (total entities + 2)

  7. In English Alphabets If middle between 10th from left and 7th from right is asked convert all to left (7th from right is 20th from left) 10+20/2 =15 which is O.

  8. Four cases:

  1. Case1: x to the left of y from left= y-x from left.

  2. Case 2: x to the right of y from left= x +y from left.

  3. Case 3: x to the right of y from the right= y-x from the right.

  4. Case 4: x to the left of y from the right = x +y from the right.

  1. When something is called with the different name. solve it normally and then check its name in the instruction; same approach is to be applied in the questions where places of the entities are to be interchanged.

  2. When middle digit/alphabets, etc is to be found between two variables then exclude both the variables and count the entity between the two and then apply average formula.

  3. In coding decoding if the question and answers contain same set of entities but at different place then code it as per their place value in the arrangements.

  4. In coding decoding if the question and answers contain different entities then code it as per their value in the original English alphabets.

  5. In questions where it is asked that how many such pairs exist where between the two alphabets there are as many letters as in the English alphabet, check each letter individually as they are in the original alphabets like mno or jkl . first from the left side and then in the reverse ie from the right side.

  6. In less than, greater than, equal to, etc question solve by using column matrix . up, center and below. If greater than, then place it in the upper column if less than, then place it in the lower column, if equal to, then place it in the center column ie right/left.

  7. In question where there are 2 or more variables considered say, how many such symbol which are followed by number and preceded by consonant that means effectively you are required to find this series: csn where; c is a consonant, s is a symbol and n is a number. Look for symbol (middle thing) and then check the condition on the either side.

  8. If one half of the alphabets or such groups are to be written in reverse order and the question is based on it then there may be chances that the final entity which is being asked might not be a part of that group(which has been asked to reverse) so read the question carefully and don’t waste the time in reversing; eg: in no from 1-10; last three has to be written in reverse order then which will be 4th from left? Since last 3 has to be reversed and we have find the 4th which will be 4 in any case hence what is the point in reversing similarly in the same example if every alternate digit is dropped then which will be 3rd solve ignoring the alternate digit as if they don’t exist like 1 3 5(which is the 3rd one).
