Batman V Superman

Batman is unique for the simple reason that he has no superhuman powers and is an ordinary human relying on intelligence, money, inventiveness, detective skills, martial arts, and fear to defeat his opponents.

Batman’s Traits

1.. The Batarang

There are no gimmicks here; the standard Batarang is easily the most important piece of Batman’s arsenal. These specialized throwing stars are nothing more than sculpted metal in the shape of a bat. Simple, right? You tell that to the thugs that the Dark Knight punctures with these bad boys every night.

2. Grappling Gun

For a hero who can’t fly, yet has to travel the length of one of the largest cities on Earth in a timely fashion, it was vital for Batman to invent a way to swing from building to building without the danger of falling to his death. Thus, the Caped Crusader thought up the legendary grappling gun. With the ability to support his body weight—and often times that of another person—this gun fires out a cable that can attach to buildings, police helicopters, or any other object in his way allowing him to swing freely.

3. Bat Shark Repellent

Even though it only appeared once, the Bat-Shark Repellent has become one of the most famous gadgets in Batman lore. Used to get rid of a very random Great White that was dangling off of his leg, this spray saved the Caped Crusader from certain doom in his big screen debut.

4. Built in Lie Detector

Hidden in his cowl is a built-in lie detector that reads a criminal’s heart rate and body temperature. The detector then shows a message to Batman through his cowl’s lenses telling him whether or not he’s being lied to..
5. Batmobile Remote Control

You probably think you’re a big shot because you have a remote starter on your car, right? Well, Batman doesn’t just have a remote starter on his Batmobile; he has the ability to drive the thing with his voice. While escaping from the Joker with Vicki Vale in the 1989 version of Batman, the Dark Knight ordered the Batmobile to pick them both up through the use of a voice-activated remote control. Within moments the car was there ready for Batman to hop in.

6. Utility Belt Taser

In desperate scenarios, Batman’s utility belt turns into a weapon itself. When someone other than the Dark Knight attempts to look through his belt to find out his secrets, a strong electrical charge is sent through it that will render an opponent temporarily unconscious. This is one of the reasons that his enemies can’t simply snatch his belt off from behind. It also means that Batman’s belt is about as dangerous as the man himself.

7. Fake Vampire Teeth

One of the tactics he uses to scare criminals is a pair of fake vampire teeth that he created. This makeshift tool makes the scum of the city truly believe that he is an otherworldly creature of the night, and it quickly brings these criminals to their knees before he ever has to throw a punch.

8. Finger Taser

Batman’s arsenal is filled with countless non-lethal gadgets for his war on crime. And while some of them are large and somewhat gaudy, a recent addition to his armory is so small you would never even know it’s there unless you really make him mad. In Detective Comics #871, Batman unleashed a powerful taser hidden in the index finger of his glove on Becca Mulcahey as she snuck up behind him in an attempt on his life. Small and compact, this weapon is perfect for the Dark Knight when carrying excess weight is not an option.

9. Cell Phone Sonar Device

Batman’s a busy dude, so sometimes he needs to outsource his gadget creation to Lucius Fox—Wayne Enterprise’s resident tech-geek. In The Dark Knight, Lucius created a way to have the signal emitted from everyday cell phones to be turned into a unique sonar beacon that only Batman could see, through the use of some specialized lenses. This sonar signal gave Bruce Wayne the ability to see everyone in the area of the signal, even if they were hiding in buildings or underground.

10. Kyptonite Ring
Batman may know a lot about combat, chemistry, technology, and costume design, but the dude really needs to brush up on his social skills. Case in point; one of his best friends in the superhero world is Superman. And how does Batman show the Man of Steel how much he means to him? By carrying around a kryptonite ring at all times in case he ever needs to belt him.

Assignment: Write a well-constructed argument defending which of these two heroes would win in a fight: Batman or Superman. Give 3 reasons for your choice. You MUST cite evidence from the text in each reason and in each paragraph. During flex, construct a writing plan (like the chart we made in class for summaries): brainstorm, highlight parts you will cite to back up your argument. 3 paragraphs – this is a grade for Mrs. Hoskins.

Kryptonite: Superman's most famous weakness, Kryptonite originated as radioactive fragments of the planet Krypton, created by fusion during the explosion that destroyed it. Superman's cells store electromagnetic radiation from the rays of a yellow sun, and converts it into energy, manifesting as his super-powers.

SUPER-BREATH

He’s frequently shown himself in comics, movies and television to have the amazing ability to inhale and exhale enormous volumes of air; enough to extinguish fires, suck the air out of a room, and even push large-scale objects, an even a tornados

Another aspect of this power is his Freeze Breath, in which he exhales cold air so extreme it can freeze steam into ice.

Flight

Because Earth exhibits less gravitational pull than that of Krypton, and also due to his solar-powered body, the Man of Steel can also alter his personal mono-directional gravity field to propel himself through the air at will. Beginning in late 1941, Superman was able to accelerate, float in midair, and change direction while traveling. Later he became able to traverse interstellar distances without stopping.

Superhuman Strength and Endurance

Enhanced strength far above that of a human and even most superhumans, making him "more powerful than a locomotive," is one of Superman's signature powers and has often been described as chief among his other abilities. Depictions of the upper limit of how much weight he can lift have ranged from being able to do the work of several laborers in half the time, crush diamonds in his grasp, lift objects hundreds of times his own weight including any sized vehicle over his head, bend steel with his bare hands, lifting mountains, and all the way up to in the Silver Age and Modern Age where he is seen moving entire planets. This makes him one of the strongest beings in the DC Universe.

TELEPATHY

Over in Marvel Comics, telekinesis often goes hand-in-hand with telepathy, and that's held true for DC’s Man of Steel as well. In 1947’s Superman #45, the Man of Steel uses a hereto unexplained ability to read his enemy’s mind and implant thoughts — thoughts to release Superman from his restraints that the enemy just placed on him.

Skip forward a couple decades to the television series Lois & Clark, and that show reveals that all Kryptonians can communicate with each other wordlessly via telepathy. While most likely wouldn't want their relatives to have the ability to read their thoughts (or vice versa), it could come in handy, too.
Superhuman Senses

  • X-Ray Vision – The ability to see through solid objects, usually with the exception of lead. X-Ray vision was first used by Superman in Action Comics #11 (April 1939), where it was called "Superman's X-ray eyesight."

  • Superhuman Hearing – Can hear far more sounds with far more detail and at far greater distances than normally humanly possible, including sounds on frequencies undetectable by humans such as dog whistles. Superman is able to mentally screen out most of these sounds to be able to function normally, even in a noisy environment, and can focus in on specific things, like a person's voice or heartbeat, even if they are in another part of the city. He can sometimes be shown to hear sounds on other planets, which makes it likely that his hearing is fundamentally different from that of a human, as sound cannot travel through the vacuum of space. Like humans and most animals, he is skilled at automatically noticing his own name out of the jumble of several overheard conversations, making him adept at quickly responding to calls of distress all over the city.

  • Superhuman Vision – His senses grant him the ability to see farther and with greater accuracy and detail than humanly possible. Sometimes includes the ability to see EM frequencies invisible to humans, such as radio transmissions, infrared light, and the bioelectric aura which surrounds all living things, even in pitch-black darkness. Offshoots of this power include Telescopic Vision, which allows him to "zoom in" on far away objects, sometimes hundreds of miles away, and Microscopic Vision, which allows him to zoom in on objects that would normally be too small to see, like those on a cellular or molecular level.

  • Superhuman Olfaction – A heightened and highly accurate sense of smell comparable to some animals such as dogs. Can be used to detect things like the chemicals in a bomb hidden somewhere in a crowded room. Not all versions of Superman display this power.
