Tom Sylla

Writer/Director/Editor, “No Return”

Tom Sylla spent his childhood moving between oil refinery towns due to his father’s job. He earned an undergraduate degree in engineering before entering the USC School of Cinema as a graduate student. His thesis project, a 20-minute video, won a Gold Award at the Houston International Film Festival. After college, Tom worked in post production for Lucasfilm and Industrial Light and Magic, where he met his future wife, Rebecca. The following year they married in a movie theatre, beginning their ceremony with their first joint film project—a fictitious account of how they met.
After leaving ILM, Tom began writing screenplays fulltime. He sold a script to Warner Brothers in 1994, the same year his first child was born. Tom also wrote a number of other scripts, including an episode for a television series.
Several years (and kids) later, Tom and Rebecca decided to produce a low-budget feature, NO RETURN, to showcase Tom's talents as a writer and director. Shot on digital video for very little money—and with not enough babysitting—NO RETURN is currently competing in film festivals nationally.
Tom continues to divide his time between projects. He and Rebecca write and direct videos for non-profit development, and his current screenplay involves the Great San Francisco Earthquake of 1906.
Rebecca Sylla

Producer, “No Return”

The youngest of four, Rebecca Nelson Sylla spent her childhood vying for screen time in Super-8 and 16mm home movies. Rebecca’s first post-college job was with a television station in Sacramento producing and researching segments for a public affairs program. She later switched to commercial production in San Francisco and eventually moved to Los Angeles where she worked for a special effects house doing marketing and project coordination. Missing her family—and fresh air—she moved back to Marin and continued working in special effects production for Industrial Light and Magic. While at ILM, she met her future husband, Tom. Rebecca later worked as marketing manager for a Marin software developer and eventually went freelance, working with Bay Area non-profits focusing on program and funding development while continuing to collaborate with Tom on projects.
After producing several short films and offspring together, Rebecca and Tom decided to produce the low-budget feature, NO RETURN, to showcase Tom's talents as a writer and director and to test Rebecca’s mental health.
Rebecca, along with Tom, currently writes and produces documentaries and videos for non-profit development.
Michael Dondero

Director of Photography, "No Return"

A native of Marin County with a lifelong fascination with films and filmmaking, Mike Dondero began making his first 8mm movies at age 11.
After years in the computer industry, Mike began working with Academy Award Winner Ben Burtt on Lucasfilm’s “Young Indiana Jones Chronicles”. Mike worked as a stand-in while also constructing sets and making models. Mike later progressed to camera assistant and operator and, after proving himself, earned the role of Director of Photography. He eventually directed shots for LucasFilm’s “Radioland Murders” and “Young Indiana Jones”.
Mike has directed and photographed several personal shorts and a documentary about the Frank Lloyd Wright' Hanna House. In addition, he has filmed numerous rock videos, including the premiere music video for The Deftones. “No Return” is his first feature film project.

Spencer Nilsen

Composer, “No Return”
Spencer’s father first introduced him to a Gibson f-hole acoustic guitar at the age of three. But, it was an old upright piano that set him on a musical career path. He landed recording sessions for various Bay Area artists at age 14 as a fledgling keyboardist. And, although he enjoyed the energy of being in bands, it was his life-long love of movies and composing that ultimately led him into the art of scoring.
After a brief stint in the live concert industry, Spencer formed a production company with world-renowned lighting director and cinematographer, Bill Holshevnikoff. Together they produced, directed and scored dozens of television shows, commercials and music videos.
When Spencer signed with American Gramaphone Records in 1989 and released his critically acclaimed album “Architects Of Change” a year later, it was clear that music had become his singular vision. He has since scored hundreds of games, television programs and films, as well as produced album projects by other artists, including pop/gospel act Rod Washington Moore and hard rockers Bygone Dogs. His albums and game scores have been released around the world but he considers his latest feature film score for “No Return” to be his most satisfying work to date.
Stephanie Colet

Alice, “No Return”

The child of a career naval corpsman who moved frequently, Stephanie Colet developed a talent for assimilating into new situations and cultures at a very young age. Her experiences have acted as springboards for many of the characters she has gone on to play in theatrical projects and films.
A graduate of San Francisco State University in Clothing Design, Stephanie realized early on that her future called her elsewhere. After graduation, she enrolled in ACT’s theatre program and never looked back. While training with casting agent Cassandra Chamberlain, she was chosen to play Alice, the lead role of Syllafilm’s “No Return"—her first feature film project.
Since completing “No Return”, Stephanie has added several theatrical and short film acting projects to her resume. She currently lives in Los Angeles, California.
Wendell Willat

Steve, “No Return”

Born and raised in Mill Valley, California, Wendell attended CALARTS in Los Angeles but returned to the Bay Area in 1993 to purse acting and be near his family.
A member of the Screen Actors Guild with numerous acting credits in commercials and independent features, Wendell has turned to directing local theatre. His directorial credits include the plays “Arcadia”, “The Woolgatherers”, “Sexual Perversity in Chicago”, “Waiting for Godot”, and the short film “Equilibrium”.
Wendell is a founding member of three Bay Area theatre companies: Ensemble Group Organization, Fools Fury and Common Culture Practices.
“No Return” is Wendell’s first major independent feature film role.

Timothy Palcic

One film, “Stalemate”, received a Huffy Rising star award at the 2002 Hollywood Underground Film Festival. Currently, Timothy is appearing in his third play in the San Francisco Bay Area. He is also a Landscape Architect and a graduate of the University of Massachusetts in Amherst. “No Return” is his first feature film.
