4.8 Bus stop poles should be positioned so that they cause the least possible obstruction to boarding or alighting passengers and to passing pedestrians, with the optimum location of the pole being at the back of the footway and the flag pointing towards the road (See Photos f and 4g). If the pole must be erected close to the road edge, it should be positioned so that the flag points inwards, away from the road and does not hangover the carriageway . No part of the pole or flag should be closer than mm from the face of the kerb line.
