We assume that the population is at an unfished equilibrium population and age structure at the start of the time period (1961). The calculation of the equilibrium population size is provided in the reference point section below.
Parameter estimates are obtained from the model by minimizing the discrepancies between the observed data and predictions from the model. Specifically, we want to obtain predictions of the annual CPUE of sharks in the three fisheries  , the predicted length composition of the catch in the three fisheries and the predicted number of tagged recaptures for each year.
