2012–13 Analysis of Health Science and Medical Technology
Statewide Analysis
The number of UC approved secondary Health Science and Medical Technology courses statewide increased from 1063 to 1165 courses or an increase of 8.7% compared to last year. Of the 1,334 comprehensive and alternative high schools in California, 683 or 51.1% have one or more UC approved Health Science and Medical Technology courses. Presently, there are 4,414 Health Science and Medical Technology courses offered statewide in which 26.3% meet University of California “a-g” admission requirements.
UC A-G Requirements
In analyzing the “a-g” admission requirements, Health Science and Medical Technology courses have been approved in the A, B, C, D, and G admission requirement areas. There were significant increases from the previous year in courses approved in the

D-Laboratory Science (8.2%) and G-Elective (9.5%) admission areas. In terms of courses approved by admission category, listed below are the figures:

The number of UC approved secondary Home Economics Careers and Technology (Education, Child Development, and Family Services Sector, Fashion and Interior Design Sector, Hospitality, Tourism and Recreation Sector) courses statewide increased from 268 to 293 courses or an increase of 8.5% compared to last year. Of the 1,334 comprehensive and alternative high schools reviewed in California, 201 or 15.0% have one or more UC approved HECT courses. Presently, there are 9,587 Home Economics Careers and Technology courses offered statewide in which 3.0% meet University of California “a-g” admission requirements.
UC A-G Requirements
In analyzing the “a-g” admission requirements, Home Economics Careers and Technology courses have been approved in the D, F, and G Admission requirement areas. There was significant change from the previous year in courses approved in the F-Visual Performing Arts (17.5%) admission area. In terms of courses approved by category, listed below are the figures:

Of the 1,334 comprehensive and alternative high schools in California, 423 or 31.7% have one or more UC approved Industrial and Technology Education courses. Presently, there are 8,223 Industrial and Technology Education courses offered statewide in which 11.1% meet UC “a-g” admission requirements.

Statewide Analysis
The number of UC approved secondary Other Career Technical Industry Sector (Public Services Sector) courses statewide increased from 867 to 961 courses or a 9.7% increase compared to last year. Of the 1,334 comprehensive and alternative high schools in California, 492 or 36.8% have one or more UC approved Other Career Technical Industry Sector courses. Presently, there are 2,307 Other Career Technical Industry Sector courses offered statewide in which 41.6% meet UC “a-g” admission requirements.
UC A-G Requirements
In analyzing the “a-g” admission requirements, Other Career Technical Industry Sector courses have been approved in the A, D, E, F and G admission requirement areas. There were substantial increases from the previous year in courses approved in the D-Laboratory Science (9.8%), E-Language Other Than English (9.7%) and G-Elective (9.5%) admission areas.
