Another type of expository sermon is a verse-by-verse exposition. This type of
sermon may involve less preparation than any other type of sermon. This method is useful in delivering a short sermon (sermonette), and when there is little or no time to prepare the sermon. The preacher reads averse, expounds the verse, and applies the verse. Then the preacher reads another verse, and may expound and/or apply that verse, as the Holy Spirit leads him. The text and the Holy Spirit guide the speaker. Certain texts lend themselves to this type of exposition. Texts with ideas that standalone in averse or two are best for this. Examples include 1 Corinthians 13 or Matthew 5:1-16.
