IV. Assignments

1. Preaching

a.
Preach the Good News of Christ, not your pet projects, irritations, or causes. Preaching is publicly proclaiming the centerpiece of the Gospel, Jesus Christ. The Gospel must be privatized through study before it is publicized through proclamation. Do your best to present yourself to God as one approved, a workman who does not need to be ashamed and who correctly handles the word of truth" (2 Timothy
2:15, NIV). In the presence of God and of Christ Jesus, who will judge the living and the dead, and in view of his appearing and his kingdom, I give you this charge Preach the Word, be prepared in season and out of season correct, rebuke and encourage with great patience and careful instruction. For the time will come when men will not put up with sound doctrine. Instead, to suit their own desires, they will gather around them a great number of teachers to say what their itching ears want to hear. They will turn their ears away from the truth and turn aside to myths. But you, keep your head in all situations, endure hardship, do the work of an evangelist, discharge all the duties of your ministry" (2 Timothy 4:1-5, NIV)
Until I come, devote yourself to the public reading of Scripture, to preaching and to teaching. Do not neglect your gift, which was given you through a prophetic message when the body of elders laid their hands on you. Be diligent in these matters give yourself wholly to them, so that everyone may see your progress. Watch your life and doctrine closely. Persevere in them, because if you do, you will save both yourself and your hearers" (1 Timothy 4:13-16, NIV)

b.
Perpetuate the Gospel (Evangelism and missions. Then Jesus came to them and said, "All authority in heaven and on earth has been given tome. Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age" (Matthew 28:18-20, NIV) But you, keep your head in all situations, endure hardship, do the work of an evangelist, discharge all the duties of your ministry" (2 Timothy 4:5, NIV).

c.
Proclaim the truth. I am astonished that you are so quickly deserting the one who called you by the grace of Christ and are turning to a different gospel--which is really no gospel at Page 1 of PASTORAL MINISTRY - Assignments fora Pastor

all. Evidently some people are throwing you into confusion and are trying to pervert the gospel of Christ. But even if we or an angel from heaven should preach a gospel other than the one we preached to you, let him be eternally condemned As we have already said, so now I say again If anybody is preaching to you a gospel other than what you accepted, let him be eternally condemned Am I am now trying to win the approval of men, or of God If I were still trying to please men, I would not be a servant of Christ. I want you to know, brothers, that the gospel I preached is not something man made up" (Galatians 1:6-11, NIV)

d.
Portray the Gospel (Practice a righteous lifestyle. Remember who you area
Christian—one belonging to Christ. As a prisoner for the Lord, then, I urge you to live a life worthy of the calling you have received. Be completely humble and gentle be patient, bearing with one another in love. Make every effort to keep the unity of the Spirit through the bond of peace" (Ephesians 4:1-3, NIV)
