Bellot, Leon H. A.

As a Member of the Geographic Service of the Army, Lieutenant Colonel Bellot, by his sound practical advice and good judgment, proved of the utmost assistance to the American Expeditionary Forces. Due largely to his personal efforts, the closest cooperation existed between his army and our town Topographic Service. Just prior to the Meuse-Argonne he personally arranged for the Geographic Service to extend and enlarge its facilities, so as to assist the 1st American Army in every way possible. His services were of inestimable value.

Medical Inspector Bergasse's influence exerted in innumerable ways has been a material factor in the successful installation and operation of the activities of the Medical Department of Base Section No. 2.

Government of the United States, during World War I. While serving as Chief of D.T.M.A., Major Berger was in personal charge of practically all of the movements of troops and hospital trains. He was tireless and careful in supervising the transportation of our troops through France and in providing railroad facilities for the shipment of supplies. He accomplished with brilliant success a most arduous and important task.

Bernard, Frederic

Citation:

The President of the United States takes pleasure in presenting the Army Distinguished Service Medal to Frederic Bernard, Quartermaster, French Navy, for exceptionally meritorious and distinguished service in a position of great responsibility to the Government of the United States, during World War I. With extraordinary heroism Quartermaster Bernard achieved the seemingly impossible in rescuing 70 members of the crew of the U.S. Army Transport JINSEN MARU, when that vessel foundered at Ile d'Yeu, France, on 4 December 1918. Braving the rocky surf, he got a line to the ship when other efforts had failed, and by that line sent all the members of the crew one-by-one to shore, being himself the last man to leave the ship. Displaying personal bravery of the highest order, he voluntarily jeopardized his life to perform this courageous service.

Subsequently, upon being attached to the 3d American Army as Liaison Officer, he capably performed duties of the utmost importance in maintaining effective liaison between the French and American Armies of Occupation, doing much to promote the harmonious relations which prevailed among the two allied armies.

Loyal to the American Army, he at all times showed a friendly interest in all our needs.

Bletry, Camille L. C.

Citation:

Bletry, Major of Artillery, French Army, for exceptionally meritorious and distinguished service in a position of great responsibility to the Government of the United States, during World War I, for services while conducting all coal negotiations between the French Government and the American Expeditionary Forces. Major Bletry's unfailing response to every demand made upon him and his friendship and energy have many times proves of inestimable value to our Armies.

In the midst of his exacting duties, he found time to render very valuable service to the American Expeditionary Forces, being ever ready to assist us by his sound judgment and wide knowledge of constantly changing conditions.
