| 4.9. 1977 – A BLOW TO D.M.K
The year 1977 witnessed a total change in the politics of Tamilnadu. In India the long hegemony of the congress was brought to an abrupt which came into existence just on the eve of the 1977 elections. In Tamilnadu, M.G.Ramachandran a film-actor turned politician who had founded a new political party, scored a spectacular electoral victory and captured power with in five years after founding the party. Both these phenomena were interesting and sensational events in the annals of political development of the country. His convincing triumphs of the Dindigul bye-election and the parliament election were clean indications of his ascending political supremacy.
