Peter M. Adams has been active in international mobile & radio standards work for 14 years.



  1. ITU Standards Experience.

1989-1991, ITU-T Study Group 11 – Rapporteur on SS No. 7 OAM.

1994-1996 ITU-T Study Group 14 on V series interfaces.

1995-2003, ITU-R Study Group 8 – TG 8/1 and later WP 8F on IMT-2000 & beyond, including being Rapporteur on QoS aspects for ITU-R Recommendation M.1079.

1995, 1997 & 2000 – Radio Assemblies.

2003-2004 ITU-T Director’s IPR Group. Appointed in 2004 as ITU-T Patents Coordinator.

2004 ITU-T Special Study Group (SSG) on IMT-2000 and beyond.


  1. Other Standards Experience.

Extensive experience in ETSI on Mobile & Radio standards work, including Cordless Standards, Paging Standards, GSM and UMTS. Experience in both technical and regulatory standards work, including being Acting Chairman of ETSI’s project on UMTS (1999-2000). Also, active involvement in the 3GPP Partnership Project on UMTS at Technical Plenary level.

In the 2003 ETSI IPR Group was “Issue Manager” for Late Declarations, which has complemented well with the emerging new role in the ITU-T Director’s IPR Group.
Active participation in the UMTS Forum General Assemblies (1996-2002) and more recently in the Open Mobile Alliance (OMA) in 2003-2004. Also attended Radicchio (on mobile commerce) and CEN/ISSS (on Multi-Application Smart Cards) - both 2001 – 2003.


  1. Role in British Telecommunications (BT) PLC.

The leader and coordinator for all BT’s Mobile, Mobility and Radio standards work including Project Management and financial aspects. The role also includes determining priorities for the resources BT is putting into mobile and radio international standards groups and evaluating those of most benefit to BT (including in the ITU!). Member of BT’s Mobility R&D management team. Extensive experience of matrix management of standards work within BT as well as of line management. Participation in workshops evaluating the value of BT’s mobile patents portfolio.
