1993: Master of Music degree in euphonium performance from The University of Connecticut, Storrs. Studied with Daniel Patrylak and Mary Lou Rylands.

1970: Bachelor of Music degree in education from the University of Iowa, Iowa City, Iowa. Private study with Robert Whaley, Henry Howie, John Hartman, Arthur Swift, John Hill. Performed in wind ensemble, symphonic band, marching band, brass choir, various brass ensembles.

Other:

1993-1994: Private tuba study with Joanna Hersey.

1980-1985: Private euphonium study with Henry Charles Smith.

PROFESSIONAL MUSICAL ACHIEVEMENT

PERFORMANCE:

Euphonium:

1996-present: Free-lance euphonium. Performed on Prairie Home Companion. Performed with Minnesota Orchestra and Symphonia (large tuba-euphonium ensemble). Soloist for Tubonium (regional tuba-euphonium conference), International Euphonium Institute, International Tuba-Euphonium Association Conferences. Special soloist with brass ensembles conducted by Henry Charles Smith. Solo euphonium demonstration at the North American Brass Band Association competition in 1998.

1970-1996: Principal and solo euphonium, U. S. Coast Guard Band. Performed in 42 states, the former Soviet Union, the United Kingdom, and Canada. Broadcasts in 45 states and ten foreign countries.

Recitalist in the United States and Japan.

Clinician and design consultant for Boosey & Hawkes Musical Instruments (Great Britain, U.S.), Sterling Musical Instruments (Great Britain) and Custom Music Company (U. S.).

Trombone:

1978-83: Utility trombone with USCG Band.

1971-77: Trombone with USCG Band Jazz Ensemble (lead trombone 1975-77).

Trombone in pit orchestras for civilian and USCG musical comedy productions.

1972-74: Principal trombone with Eastern Connecticut Symphony Orchestra.

Tuba:

1996-present: Tubist with Saints Brass (brass quintet).

1996: EE-flat tuba with Sheldon Theater Brass Band.

1988-89: EE-flat tuba in Classic Brass Band of Connecticut.



Chamber Ensemble:

1996-present: Tubist with Saints Brass (brass quintet). Member of Symphonia (large tuba-euphonium ensemble)

1976-1996: USCG Band Euphonium-Tuba Quartet (the first professional euphonium-tuba quartet in the United States), founding member.

Atlantic Tuba Quartet, founding member.

1992-1996: Principal euphonium of U.S. Armed Forces Tuba-Euphonium Ensemble at the annual United States Army Band Tuba-Euphonium Symposium.

1990-1992: Eastern Brass Quartet.

1989: U.S. Armed Forces Tuba-Euphonium Ensemble for Midwest International Band and Orchestra Clinic.

1984: Presented lecture-recital on euphonium-tuba quartet literature for Midwest National Band and Orchestra Clinic.

1980-present: Regional, national, and international ITEA / T.U.B.A. Symposiums and other events throughout United States.

1991: Recital tour through Japan. Cities included Sapporo, Fukuoka, Tokyo, Kobe, Osaka, Nagoya, and Matsuyama.

• Ten live network television broadcasts.

• Performed as part of the USCG Band with William Warfield, Andy Williams, Marilyn Horne, June Anderson, Robert Merrill, Roger Bobo, Harvey Phillips, Dale Clevenger, Philip Farkas, Roger Kellaway, Eddie Haywood, Bill Watrous, Walter Cronkite, the New York Philharmonic, and Big Bird.

• Performed under baton of Keith Brion, Frederick Fennell, Donald Hunsberger, Paul Lavalle, Zubin Mehta, and John Paynter. Performed in Lincoln Center, Kennedy Center, and Carnegie Hall.

• Performed for President Mitterrand of France, Queen Elizabeth II of England, King Harald V and Queen Sonja of Norway, and U. S. Presidents Nixon, Ford, Carter, Reagan, Bush, and Clinton.
