At a minimum, notice these essential shops:

  • Pharmacie,” in case you need some Band-Aids later, after all this walking.

  • Tabac,” in case you need to purchase more minutes for your French phone.

  • Patissier & Chocolatier,” for pastries and chocolates to take on your day trips to Caen and the D-Day beaches.

  • Marché Plus,” where you will come for groceries.

  • Charcuttier” (deli), to pick up entrées to go.

  • Cave” (wine shop), where you may request a “degustation” (wine tasting), and select a few nice bottles of local wine.

Soon after the bridge and the TI, watch for rue Larcher on your left. This is the intersection you will return to after your visit to the Saturday Market. At the Saturday Market, the entire perimeter of the square at Place Saint-Patrice is devoted to food. Cheese (“fromage”), both local and from all over France… Wine, Calvados, and Normandy cider producers, offering samples of their wares... Breads, sausages, cut flowers… Local fruits and vegetables… Seafood trucks selling an array of Normandy seafood, including local mussels... Vendors offering pizza, paella, sweet and savory crepes…

In the center of the square you will find new and used books for sale, as well as an array of clothing, shoes, jewelry, scarves, handbags pottery and market baskets.
