Mooney2004 Chapter DevelopingPortableSoftware (1)
8.
CONCLUSION
This paper has surveyed abroad range of issues to be considered in the development of portable software. A range of strategies has been proposed for addressing the problems. We have also examined ways in which portability maybe incorporated into the software development process.
We have only been able, however, to explore the surface of the problem.
Some of the issues that have not been discussed are:
Tools for developing portable software
Analysis of costs and benefits
The porting process itself
Portability for special domains, such as parallel and real-time software
The relationship between portability and reuse

James D. Mooney
Portability vs. reuse is discussed by Mooney (1995). Most of these issues are examined in a course taught by the author at West Virginia University
(Mooney 1992). More information is available on the course website
(Mooney 2004).
