Marital status of lecturer respondentsOne facet of the research investigates the marital status of the educators, which may offer supplementary perspectives on their demographic characteristics. The findings suggest that the majority of lecturers are in a state of matrimony (64.7%), succeeded by those who are unmarried (21.6%), bereaved (9.8%), and separated (3.9%). The research background posits that gaining insight into the demographic attributes of engineering educators, such as their marital status, can enhance the overall understanding of the teaching workforce in mechanical engineering education. The findings are consistent with the anticipated results, as it is rational to hypothesise that the marital statuses of instructors would demonstrate a distribution comparable to that of the overall populace. The correlation between one's marital status and their efficacy as an educator has not been extensively investigated in prior scholarly literature and may not be directly linked to the calibre of instruction provided. The data pertaining to marital status does not appear to yield any unforeseen results. In the event of unexpected discoveries, it is plausible that cultural, social, or regional variables may have impacted the prevalence of marital status among the lecturers. The prevalence of married lecturers may be explained by cultural norms and expectations within the surrounding community. The findings of the study indicate that mechanical engineering lecturers in Ghanaian technical universities exhibit a varied array of marital statuses. While there is no direct correlation between marital status and teaching effectiveness or educational quality, examining the demographic composition of the teaching workforce can provide valuable insights into the broader context of mechanical engineering education. One avenue for further investigation is to examine the possible effects of lecturers' marital status on their job satisfaction, work-life balance, and teaching commitment. Furthermore, conducting an analysis of the correlation between marital status and various demographic variables, such as age and gender, could potentially yield intriguing findings. The rationale for conducting further research lies in the potential contribution to the advancement of mechanical engineering education in Ghanaian technical universities, and ultimately, to the engineering profession and society.
