Mechanical engineering graduates’ employment 4.6.1.1.1Hiring Mechanical Engineering Graduates from Technical Universities
The responses to the interview questions suggest that the industry values
mechanical engineering graduates from technical universities and recognises their varied skill sets. One interviewee stated,
"We've hired local mechanical engineering graduates in a variety of fields, including vehicle design, welding, treatments, spraying, testing, maintenance, and software tool utilisation"(IE1, 2023).
This demonstrates the versatility of these graduates and their capacity to contribute to a variety of industry sectors. In addition, the interviewees emphasised the significance of software expertise and machine learning knowledge. According to one respondent,
"our employees must be proficient in software tools such as Catia, Solid Works, Creo Parametric, and Rhino CAD modelling and have a foundation in machine learning" (IE1, 2023).
This emphasis on software tools and machine learning is consistent with prior research (e.g., Alam, 2022; Dominguez et al., 2022) that highlights the growing significance of digital skills in the engineering field. The presence of both experienced senior employees and new recruits in training demonstrates the industry's commitment to continuous professional development, as mentioned by the interviewees. This finding is consistent with previous studies (e.g., Edström & Kolmos, 2014; Niraula & El Naqa, 2022), that emphasise the significance of ongoing training and development for engineering professionals.
The responses to the interview questions indicate that the industry is able to hire and train local mechanical engineering graduates for a variety of positions, utilising their expertise in production, automotive, and software tools. This result is consistent with previous research on the value of mechanical engineering education and its applicability to industry (Bongomin et al., 2020b; Coşkun et al., 2019b). The emphasis on software proficiency and machine learning knowledge, as well as the
dedication to continuous professional development, demonstrate the industry's adaptability and responsiveness to the swiftly changing technological landscape.
