Taking a look around the horn of Section 14:

It is with a heavy heart that I report that former R644 player Daniel Ayala passed away last week at the age of 18. Daniel will be missed by his family, his many friends, former teammates and coaches. There is nothing worse than the loss of a child/young adult. So much future is lost….so much potential is lost…….from all of us in AYSO …..our condolences and may Daniel rest in peace.
On Saturday October 5 R1370 Boynton Beach will be holding “Green Day” at the West Boynton Park from 9am-12pm. Parents are requested to bring their stash of papers to be shredded by a professional shredding company at the low price of $5 per 10x10x12 box. For more information go to www.aysoregion1370.com.
Region 644 in Weston will be holding it’s 5th annual Food Drive in conjunction with Feeding South Florida on Saturday October 5 and Saturday October 12 from 9am-6pm. Parents are requested to bring non perishable food items to the AYSO Soccer Building at the Weston Regional Park.
AYSO Region 345 is teaming with the Lord’s Place to conduct a food drive to help homeless children, families and individuals in the West Palm Beach community.

Parents are requested to bring any and all non-perishable, unexpired food items to the fields at Okeeheelee Park . AYSO players will be collecting the food at a table near the concession stand from 830am-430pm. The Lord’s Place will distribute the food to those in need.ny

Saturday October 19 proves to be a very busy day as R644 in Weston has Weston AYSO night at Lockhart Stadium. The Ft Lauderdale Strikers take on the Atlanta Silverbacks and all R644 players and parents can buy general admission tickets for $12. Included with the ticket to the game is a free hot dog, free drink and a free popcorn. AYSO R644 kids will be part of pre game on field festivities, a half time game and an autograph session after the game.
AYSO Section 14 will be holding our Section Planning Meetings October 19 and 20 in West Palm Beach. It is during these meetings that our section staff discuss programming for the upcoming year as well as growth opportunities for AYSO within our section. And of course how to make your experience with AYSO even better.
AYSO Section 14 is looking for an individual interested in the volunteer positions of Section Publicity Director and Section Marketing Director. AYSO has sooooo many stories to tell and does soooo many good things, not just on the field. The Publicity Director will be responsible for collecting information for our monthly Dribbles and Kicks from our regions. That person will also help regions convey to the local media, our current and future participants, the community and potential volunteers and sponsors what is going on within the regions both on the field, through special events and in community outreach programs. In addition, we are looking for a marketing director volunteer. That individual is responsible for promoting AYSO, the section and individual regions in order to obtain more participants, more programming and new regions.

In November we will be unveiling a surprise addition to our 2014 AYSO Section 14 Meetings. Many new courses are going to be offered at our 2014 AYSO Section 14 Section Meeting. Our section meetings have been scheduled for Friday January 31, 2014 through Sunday February 2, 2014 at the Embassy Suites Hotel in Boca Raton Florida. Section Meetings are an annual event where volunteers from across AYSO Section 14 are offered and attend multiple discipline based tract courses (Coaching, Referee, Management as well as General Interest) which help our volunteers in carrying out their duties as volunteers. We are also, once again, anticipating offering various instructor courses on Friday January 31, 2014 which will allow volunteers to gain specific certifications to teach discipline courses back to their regional volunteers.

AYSO State Games 2014 moves digital. Beginning this coming state games tournament, we will be utilizing our website to report all tournament game results and standing updates in real time. You will be able to access all this information as well as games schedules and game change information directly from your computer and mobile device.
It is that time of year where we need to make sure that our section , area and regional board positions are filled by registered, certified volunteers. Please concentrate on making sure that all of your boards are fully staffed, that each of your volunteer board members register online at www.eayso.org as a volunteer for the 2013-2014 season (registration must be done each year), that each of your volunteers has been certified for Safe Haven (which is offered online) and that they are certified in the positions that they serve (webinars are given each month for certification-Go to www.aysosection14.org news section for a listing of webinars upcoming during October 2013.
Regions within Section 14 have begun fall season play. Please send me some pictures and information related to your fall season so we can include them on our website www.aysosection14.org as well as future editions of Dribbles and Kicks.

New Section 14 tournament director, Alan Dagen, has announced that beginning with the 2014 AYSO State Games, we will have a college showcase as part of the festivities. We will be inviting college coaches from around Florida as well as from colleges throughout the United States to come to our State Games for the sole purpose of locating potential athletes who they can offer full and partial scholarships to. We will be sending regions information as to how to compile player information for players in the U19 age divisions. These packets can be given to these college coaches at the college showcase. Region 644 did this a few years ago and 5 players received college scholarships based on their packets and one weekend of games.

AYSO Section 14 has started a Twitter account to help you stay up to date on all that is going on in the section. Go ahead and “Friend” AYSOSection14 to receive all of the updates for coach and ref courses and interesting tidbits going on throughout the State of Florida.
AYSO Section 14 now has a new look to our website at www.aysosection14.org. It is currently being populated with information that you will find pertinent. From upcoming tournaments, to coach and referee courses and issues of Hey Coach and Whistle Stop, our website is your one stop shop to find out what is going on throughout Section 14. We will constantly be updating the website so check back often.
