On 1 November 2010, Rhino/Warner Music will release the 21st solo album from “The First Lady of music theatre” – Elaine Paige. Entitled ‘Elaine Paige And Friends’, this brand new album brings together one of the UK’s most loved and distinctive musical voices together with a host of international performers for the first time.
For her first studio album since ‘Essential Musicals’ in 2006, the multi-award winning actress, recording artist, producer and broadcaster has teamed up with legendary record producer Phil Ramone in New York to record classic and contemporary duets with internationally renowned vocalists and friends Barry Manilow, Billy Ocean, Dionne Warwick, Idina Menzel, John Barrowman, Johnny Mathis, Jon Secada with saxophonist Kenny G, LeAnn Rimes, Michael Bolton, Neil Sedaka, Olivia Newton-John and Paul Anka. The album also includes a brand new track written by Gary Barlow and Tim Rice called It’s Only Life, featuring Sinead O’Connor.
From the stunning combination of Elaine Paige and the silky smooth vocals of Johnny Mathis on the brilliant rediscovery of It Might Be You from Tootsie and timeless classic feel of Just The Way You Are with Paul Anka to the pairing of two of the stages greatest voices on Madonna’s ‘Take A Bow’ with Wicked’s Idina Menzel and the heartbreaking Gary Barlow / Tim Rice penned It’s Only Life with Sinead O’Connor, ‘Elaine Paige And Friends’ demonstrates the warmth and diversity of friendship perfectly.
Elaine Paige has made a major contribution to the modern musical, starring in numerous West End productions and on Broadway and in concert internationally. She swept to fame when she created her award winning performance as Eva Peron in Evita. Shortly afterwards she created the role of Grizabella in the original production of Cats and the classic song Memory became one of Elaine's many hit records.
Further theatre productions: Hair, Jesus Christ Superstar, Grease, Billy, Chess (with her record breaking number one hit I Know Him So Well with Barbara Dickson), Anything Goes, Sunset Boulevard in London and Broadway, The King and I, Sweeney Todd (New York City Opera). She has worked twice with Sir Peter Hall's Theatre Company in The Misanthrope and Feydeau’s Where There’s A Will.
She has appeared in many television roles including her own TV specials and Royal Variety Shows. She has previously recorded 20 solo albums (4 multi Platinum and 8 consecutive Gold) and 6 cast albums and has been honoured with a number of awards.
Elaine Page returned to the West End stage in 2007 to critical acclaim in the title role of The Drowsy Chaperone at the Novello Theatre, London for which she was nominated for Best Supporting Actress in a Musical for her performance in What’s On Stage Awards, London. As well as performing in Europe and in the USA in concert she recently recorded the track The Things You Are You To Me with Secret Garden, for their new number one quadruple-platinum selling album.
