Opal Alford was born September 21, 1904 in Sedan, Chautauqua County, Texas, was the daughter of Joseph B. Alford ("Joseph Alford") and Rose Ann Warmbradt ("Rose Warmbradt"), and apparently later married a Barton. Roy Williams and Opal Alford had a daughter named: Sue Mary Adeline Williams ("Sue Williams", "Susan Williams" & "Mary Williams") born October 15, 1931 in Arlington, Terrant County, Texas, and married Charles Wise on March 26, 1956. Charles Wise and Sue Wise ("Susan Wise") had a son named: Stephan Lane Wise ("Stephen Wise") who was born January 17, 1963.; (viii) MARY OCTAVIA F. CORNWELL ("Mary Cornwell") born August 10, 1849 or on August 10, 1848375 in Jasper County, Georgia, married Masten R. Faulkner ("Masten Faulkner"), and died December 9, 1932 in the same county. Masten Faulkner was born July 5, 1845, was the son of Masten Faulkner and an Elizabeth, and died December 9, 1915. Masten Faulkner and Mary Faulkner had 4 children: Claude Faulkner ("Claud Faulkner"),a daughter born about 1872; Ernest Faulkner born about 1874; Eugenius Faulkner born about 1876; and, Edgar L. Faulkner ("Edgar Faulkner") born October 20, 1880, and died February 2, 1906 or on December 9, 1915375; and, (ix) SARAH RUTH CORNWELL ("Sarah Cornwell") born about 1851 in Jasper County, Georgia, and married John W. Parnell ("John Parnell") on November 7, 1876 in Jasper County, Georgia; 368 & 375 and, (10) GEORGE WASHINGTON CORNWELL ("George W. Cornwell" & "George Cornwell") born on either March 8, 1808 or on March 3, 1808493 in either Mechanicsville, Jasper County, Georgia493 or in Gwinette County, Georgia 475, married Elizabeth Dawkins Lane ("Elizabeth Lane" & "Louisa Lane"?) on January 2, 1828, died on either January 5, 1863, on June 15, 1873 475 or on January 5, 1883493 in either Mechanicsville, Jasper County, Georgia or in Chester County, South Carolina493, and is buried in the Old Cornwell Cemetery in Georgia. Elizabeth Lane was born June 12, 1808, was the daughter of William Lane and Elizabeth White of Putnam County, Georgia, died June 16, 1871 in Jasper County, Georgia, and is buried with her husband. The home of George Washington Cornwell was on land near the Alcovy, adjoining that of his mother and was near his brothers Obadiah Cornwell (“Obediah Cornwell”) and Elijah Cornwell, Jr. From there he directed farm operations in both Jasper County, Georgia and Newton County, Georgia. George Washington Cornwell owned more than one hundred slaves and represented Jasper County in the State Legislature from about 1855 to 1858. For several years he and his brother, Obadiah Cornwell, maintained a school for children of their families which was also attended by students from the families of relatives in DeKalb County, Georgia. He was an early and active member of the Bethelem Baptist Church located near Hardys Crossroads. George Cornwell and Elizabeth Cornwell had 7 children: (i) GIBSON HILL CORNWELL ("Gibson Cornwell") born November 18, 1828, became a medical doctor, and died December 30, 1856; (ii) WILLIAM DAWKINS CORNWELL, SR. ("William Cornwell") born June 9, 1832 in Jasper County, Georgia, became a medical doctor, first married a Strickland, later married Mary Jane Lynch ("Mary Lynch") on October 2, 1851 in Jasper County, Georgia, and died October 28, 1868. Mary Lynch was the daughter of Ephraim Lynch and Elizabeth Lynch, was born December 12, 1835, and died January 15, 1895. The children of William Cornwell by his first marriage were: Alexander C. Cornwell ("Alexander Cornwell"? & "Alex Cornwell") born November 9, 1852 in Jasper County, Georgia, and died March 3, 1855 in Jasper County, Georgia; Washington T. Cornwell ("Washington Cornwell") born June 30, 1855 in Jasper County, Georgia, and died May 30, 1915; Louisa Caroline Alice Cornwell ("Louisa Cornwell", "Luezar Cornwell" & "Caroline Cornwell") born September 11, 1859 in Jasper County, Georgia, married a Strickland, and died January 30, 1925; Bedford Forrest Cornwell ("Bedford Cornwell") born July 27, 1862 in Jasper County, Georgia, and died March 15, 1864 in Jasper County, Georgia; Ader E. Cornwell ("Adar Cornwell", "Ader Cornwell"? & "Ada Cornwell"?) born July 23, 1866 in Jasper County, Georgia, and died July 11, 1939; and, William Dawkins Cornwell, Jr. ("William Cornwell") born April 26, 1869 in Jasper County, Georgia, did not marry, and died December 2, 1927; The children of William Cornwell and Mary Cornwell were: Alexander C. Cornwell (“Alexander Cornwell”) born on November 9, 1852, and died on March 3, 1855; Washington T. Cornwell (“Washington Cornwell”) born on June 30, 1855; and, Luezar Caroline Alice Cornwell (“Luezar Cornwell” & “Caroline Cornwell”) born on September 11, 1859, and died on January 30, 1925; (iii) MARY JANE CORNWELL ("Mary Cornwell") born September 7, 1834, married Micajah B. Key ("Micajah Key") about 1851, and did not have any children. Micajah Key was born in June 1832; (iv) DAVIS LANE CORNWELL ("Davis Cornwell") born April 26, 1836 in Mechanicsville, Jasper County, Georgia, married Sarah Barnes Hardy ("Sarah Hardy") on September 15, 1866 or on July 31, 1866375 & 434 in Jasper County, Georgia, died April 3, 1915 in Monticello, Jasper County, Georgia, and is buried at the Mt. Zion Cemetery. Sarah Hardy was born January 1, 1844, and was the daughter of Benager Hardy and Amelia Sutton. Davis Cornwell was a farmer, a Justice of the Peace, a veteran of the American Civil War, served under Generals Joseph E. Johnson (“Joseph Johnson”) and P.T.G. Beauregard. He was a privatge in Company “A” of the 32nd. Georgia Regiment Infantry and was stationed at Fort Sumter and was in the battles of Olustee and Averasboro-Bentonville. At various times he served as Secretary to General Talliaferro and as Secretary and Cartographer at the Headquarters of General Beauregardat Charleston, Charleston County, South Carolina. The homesite of Davis Cornwell was located in the Turtle Cove Development near the present water tank tower. He and his family were among the organizers of the Mount Zion Christian Church. He did not inherit anything from his father’s estate as it was lost as a result of the American Civil War. The estate was administered on and sold and paid for in Confederate money, which was worthless after the Civil War. Davis Cornwell and Sarah Cornwell had 6 children: Gibson Hill Cornwell ("Gibson Cornwell") born April 25, 1867 in Jasper County, Georgia, married Cora Diamond Hardy ("Cora Hardy"), became a Colonel in the military, and died on June 8, 1936; Carrie Diamond Cornwell ("Carrie Cornwell") born January 24, 1870 in Jasper County, Georgia, and married James Forest Hardy ("James Hardy") about 1888. James Hardy was born in September 1869 in Georgia, and was the son of Alfred D. Hardy ("Alfred Hardy") and Elizabeth A. James Hardy and Carrie Hardy had 9 children: Rosalyn Hardy born in either February 1890 or in September 1890434 in Georgia; Cora J. Hardy ("Cora Hardy") born in July 1892 in Georgia; Annie F. Hardy ("Annie Hardy" & "Ann Hardy") born in December 1894 in Georgia; Sarah M. Hardy ("Sarah Hardy") born in January 1896 in Georgia; James H. Hardy ("James Hardy") born either about 1900 or about 1891434 in Dodge County, Georgia; Allie L. Hardy ("Allie Hardy") born about 1902 in Dodge County, Georgia; Troy R. Hardy ("Troy Hardy") born about 1904 in Dodge County, Georgia; Doyle Hardy born about November 1909 in Dodge County, Georgia; and, Dolphus Hardy born about November 1909 in Dodge County, Georgia; Mattie Lou Cornwell ("Mattie Cornwell") born August 5, 1871 in Jasper County, Georgia, did not marry, and died either on October 26, 1896 or on October 25, 1905434; Joseph Davis Cornwell, Sr. ("Joseph Cornwell") born February 8, 1876 near Mechanicsville in Jasper County, Georgia, married Linie Emma Kelly (“Linie Kelly”) on November 2, 1902, and died on February 14, 1963 in Atlanta, Georgia. Linie Kelly was the daughter of Burton Kelly and Margaret Fish. Joseph Cornwell, Sr. and Linie Cornwell had 5 children: Gibson Kelly Cornwell (“Gibson Cornwell”) born on September 18, 1903, married Mary McCluny on April 27, 1939, had no natural children but adopted 2 daughters, and died on August 4, 1965. The 2 daughters of Gibson Cornwell and Mary Cornwell were: Martha Gibson Cornwell born on March 6, 1944; and, Kelly Josephine Cornwell (“Kelly Cornwell”) born on November 28, 1943; Joseph Davis Cornwell, Jr. (“Joseph Cornwell”), a twin, born on October 9, 1905 in Marietta, Georgia, married Roberta Maxine Caswell (“Roberta Caswell”) on June 27, 1938, and died on July 29, 1989 in Conyers, Rockdale County, Georgia. Roberta Caswell was born on June 27, 1938, and was the daughter of Oscar Caswell and Ada Collins. Joseph Cornwell, Jr. and Roberta Cornwell had 4 children: Joseph Davis Cornwell, III born on April 25, 1942 in Fort Jackson, Richland County, South Carolina, and married Karel Fortess on December 22, 1972 in a penthouse over Waikiki Beach, Honolulu, Hawaii. Karel Fortress was the daughter of Leo Fortess and Lillian Piconi. Joseph Cornwell, III and Karel Cornwell had 2 children: Derekh David Fortess Cornwell (“Derekh Cornwell” & “David Cornwell”) born on January 31, 1975; and, Jonathan Evan Fortess Cornwell (“Jonathan Cornwell” & “Evan Cornwell”) born on August 16, 1977; Gibson Caswell Cornwell (“Gibson Cornwell”) born on October 29, 1943; William Oscar Cornwell (“William Cornwell”) born July 13, 1947 in Atlanta, Fulton County, Georgia, married Sara Elizabeth Hardman (“Sarah Hardman”) on June 10, 1972 in Covington, Georgia. William Cornwell and Sara Cornwell (“Elizabeth Cornwell”) had 2 children: William Lanier Cornwell (“William Cornwell”) born on August 25, 1976; and, Rob Cornwell (“Robert Cornwell”?); and, Maxine Elizabeth Cornwell (“Maxine Cornwell”) born on April 14, 1949 in Atlanta, Fulton County, Georgia, and married Douglas William Edwards (“Douglas Edwards”) on September 11, 1972 in Conyers, Rockdale County, Georgia. Douglas Edwards and Maxine Edwards (“Elizabeth Edwards”) had 2 children: Philip Douglas Edwards (“Philip Edwards” & “Phillip Edwards”) born on September 9, 1974; and, Jennifer Edwards born on May 6, 1976; and, Josephine Elizabeth Cornwell (“Josephine Cornwell”), a twin, born on October 9, 1905, and married Riley Elam Orr (“Riley Orr”) on March 9, 1929 and had no children; Burton Lane Cornwell (“Burton Cornwell”) born on January 16, 1911, never married, and died on August 9, 1988; and, James George Cornwell (“James Cornwell”) born on November 17, 1912, never married, and died on December 28, 1992 in Snellville, Georgia; George William Cornwell ("George Cornwell") born March 5, 1878 in Jasper County, Georgia, married Lula Lane Cornwell ("Lula Cornwell"), and died December 9, 1967. Lula Cornwell was born March 21, 1881 in Jasper County, Georgia, was the daughter of William Dawson Cornwell ("William Cornwell") and Elmina Susan Hardy ("Elmina Hardy"), and died August 8, 1950. George Cornwell and Lula Cornwell had 6 children: Emma George Cornwell ("Emma Cornwell") born October 21, 1904, and married either James Clay Davis ("James Davis") or John Ferrell Newman (“John Newman”); William Davis Cornwell ("William Cornwell") born December 12, 1907, and married Mildred Estelle Hall ("Mildred Hall"); Katherine Thenia Cornwell ("Katherine Cornwell") born May 11, 1910, married James Harrell Harvey ("James Harvey"), and died September 26, 1979. James Harvey was born January 26, 1907. James Harvey and Katherine Harvey had 2 children: India Katherine Harvey ("India Harvey") born January 29, 1932, and married Lee Ben Clark ("Lee Clark" & "Leonard Clark"?); and, Mary Eleanor Harvey ("Mary Harvey") born March 14, 1937, and married Richard H. Kicklighter ("Richard Kicklighter"); Eleanor Mildred Cornwell ("Eleanor Cornwell") born either on October 12, 1912 or on May 12, 1912434, and married Walter D. Hitchcock ("Walter Hitchcock"); Elmira Sarah Cornwell ("Eimina Sarah Cornwell", “Eimina Cornwell” & “Elmira Cornwell”) born May 2, 1917, and married John F. Newman ("John Newman"). John Newman was born May 3, 1911, and died April 24, 1983. John Newman and Eimina Newman had 2 children: John Ferrell Newman, Jr. ("John Newman") born September 3, 1943 in Atlanta, Georgia, and married Patricia Frances Rowe ("Patricia Rowe") who was born on July 21, 1946 in Atlanta, Georgia. John Newman, Jr. and Patricia Newman had 2 children: Sarah Lyle Newman ("Sarah Newman") born March 16, 1975 in Chicago, Cook County, Illinois; and, John Ferrell Newman, III ("John Newman") on June 1, 1978 in Chicago, Cook County, Illinois; and, William Theodore Newman ("William Newman") born May 23, 1947, and married Sarah Ann Adams ("Sarah Adams") who was born on November 1, 1952 in Oakland, Alemeda County, California; and, Dora Pauline Cornwell ("Dora Cornwell") born September 16, 1920, and married Marcial Cuella Peralta ("Marcial Peralta"); and, James Troy Cornwell (James Cornwell") born January 6, 1883 in Jasper County, Georgia, first married Madge Heaton (“Madge Heator”?), and later married Ina Bertha Kelly ("Ina Kelly") about 1906. Ina Kelley was born August 8, 1885, and died February 20, 1932. (v) ELIZABETH ANN CORNWELL ("Elizabeth Cornwell") born May 18, 1839; (vi) ADELINE F. CORNWELL ("Adaline F. Cornwell", "Adaline Cornwell" & "Adeline Cornwell") born May 23, 1845 in Jasper County, Georgia; and, (vii) LENORA V. CORNWELL ("Lenora Cornwell") born June 7, 1851 in Jasper County, Georgia, and married Newkin Allen ("Newton Allen"?); (II) MARY JANE CAVENDER (“Mary Cavender”, “M.J. Cavender” & “Polly Cavender”) who married Drewry Bridges (“Dewey Bridges”?) on January 17, 1786 in Granville County, North Carolina which is located just south of Lunenburg County, Virginia, and with Bryant Cavender being the bondsman. In the 1800 census for the Hillsboro District of Granville County, North Carolina, the family of Bryant Cavender comprised: 1 male and 1 female 26-45 years of age, 1 female under 10 years of age, 1 slave, and 1 other free person not taxed. Also living in the same location was the family of John Cavender which comprised: 1 male and 1 female 26-45 years of age, 1 male 10-16, 1 male under 10 and 1 other free person not taxed, and the family of Thomas Cavender which comprised 1 male and 1 female 16-45, 2 males 10-16, 1 male under 10, and 1 other free person not taxed. 355 (III) JOSEPH CAVENDER (“Joseph C. Cavender”?) born either about 1766493 or about 1780476 in North Carolina, or about 1778 in Westmoreland County, Virginia.494 In fact, it is further said that he was born about 1766 in Westmoreland County, Virginia. In 1804, he was living in Gwinnett County, Georgia (or in Hog Mountain, Jackson County, Georgia493) with his older sister Catherine Cavender Cornwell ("Catherine Cornwell") and her husband, Elijah Cornwell. He married Miriam Henry (“Myram Henry”) about 1808-1810 in Pendleton, South Carolina, according to an interview with one of his daughters (i.e., “Emmaline Cavender”)470, and he died about 1858 in Maury County, Tennessee 494. Miriam Henry was born about 1790 in Orange County, North Carolina to William Henry born about 1762 in Pennsylvania? and Jane Russell born in North Carolina, and she died before 1840 in Georgia. The daughter of Joseph Cavender apparently also stated that she had a brother named Milton Henry Cavender (“Milton Cavender”, “M.H. Cavender” & “Milton H. Cavender”) who cannot be accounted for. However, others believe Joseph Cavender was married in Westmoreland County, Virginia, and still others believe he may have married a Jency Williamson ("Jincy Williamson"?) on August 12, 1809 in Oglethorpe County, Georgia,373 then moved to Maury County, Tennessee in the 1830s, and died about 1858 Maury County, Tennessee. A Joseph Cavender was living next door to William Henry (Miriam Henry’s father) in Gwinette County, Georgia in 1820. In fact, still another source contends that it was a James Cavender who married Miriam Henry, which apparently is based on the fact that Miriam Henry’s father, William Henry, named a James Cavender as a legatee in his Last Will and Testament. However, this contradicts the statement said to have been made by Joseph Cavender’s daughter, Emmaline Cavender, that she was the daughter of Joseph Cavender and Miriam Cavender. However, it appears that by 1820 the above Joseph Cavender had moved from South Carolina to Gwinnett County, Georgia, and by 1824 he had settled in Fayette County, Georgia470, and moved to Maury County, Tennessee in the 1830s where he died either about 1858493 & 494 or about 1850.
