Airel Cemetery in Osage County, Missouri. According to his brother, Thomas Cavender, he was born on September 28, 1915, and died on April 28, 1943.

James Cavender and Mahala Cavender apparently had a daughter named:

Lucy J. Cavender (“Lucy Cavender”, “Lucille Cavender”?, “L.J. Cavender” & “Lucinda Cavender”?) born about 1875 in Missouri.504

JAMES MONROE CAVENDER line (1817-1862)

JAMES MONROE CAVENDER ("James Cavender", “J.M. Cavender” & “James M. Cavender”) was born about 1817-1818 in Mississippi, married Frances Langley Standley (“Franses Standley” & "Frances Stanley"?) on August 27, 1838 in Carrolton, Carroll County, Mississippi near Black Hawk, Mississippi where they first met, died June 12 1862 in Batesville, White County, Arkansas, and was buried in Arkansas. Frances Standley was born February 5, 1819 in Davidson County, Tennessee which later became Williamson County, Tennessee, was the daughter of John David Standley (“John Standley”) and Matilda Frances Harland (“Matilda Harland” & “Fannie Harland”) They made their home there until 1850 when they moved to Jacksonville, Pulaski County, Arkansas in 1850, lived there until 1861, and then moved to what is now Judsonia, White County, Arkansas. James Cavender also owned 160 acres of land in Pulaski County, Arkansas.

The Union Army under the command of General Samuel Curtis moved into the Batesville, Arkansas. On May 15, 1862, while visiting a neighbor by the name of Lewis who lived in White County, Arkansas, about one mile from his home, James Cavender was arrested after inferred that he had been visiting within the area occupied by the Union Troops and was wanting to get across the Little Red River to get to Little Rock, Arkansas to give information to the Confederate Army encamped there. On May 15, 1862, James Cavender was arrested and moved to the Union Army prison in Batesville, Independence County, Arkansas. On June 4, 1862, the command charged James Monroe Cavender on two charges: acting as a Rebel spy; and, violation of the Law of War. On June 4, 1862, he was ordered to stand trial by the Military Commission. He was a prisoner of the Union Army charged with spying during the occupation of Batesville, Independence County, Arkansas by the Union Army under the command of Major General Samuel R. Curtis (“Samuel Curtis”), and he died on June 12, 1862 in Batesville, Independence County, Arkansas while still in the custody of the Union Army.

His wife, Frances Cavender, returned to Pulaski County, Arkansas and married Patrick Finton who was the father of her son-in-law, and who died about 1876 and no children were born from this union. Frances Standley ("Frances Stanley"?) was born in Davidson County, Tennessee on February 5, 1819 and which later became Williamson County, Tennessee, was the daughter of James David Standley ("James Stanley","James Standley"? & "David Standley") and Matilda Frances Harlan ("Matilda Harlan" & “Metilda Harland”?), and died March 19, 1921 in Clinton, Van Buren County, Arkansas at the home of her daughter, one mile east of Clinton, Van Buren County, Arkansas and at the age of 102 years, 1 month and 11 days, and is buried in the Clinton Cemetery in Van Buren County, Arkansas. Matilda Harlan was the daughter of John David Standley ("John Standley" & "John Stanley"?) and Fannie Harland ("Frances Harland"?). Frances Cavender (formerly "Frances Stanley" and wife of the above James Cavender), was mentioned as an heir in the Last Will and Testament of her father, David Stanley (“David Standley”), who died in Carroll County, Mississippi about 1852. Apparently her full maiden name was Frances Langley Stanley. The Last Will and Testament of David Standley also mentions Jackson Langley and his wife Amanda Langley; William Fisher and his wife Minerva Fisher; James Standley, Jr. (“James Stanley, Jr.”?); and, David Standley ("David Stanley"?). Apparently another daughter of David Stanley named Amanda Stanley ("Amenda Stanley") married a Jackson Langley about 1848. 355

According to a story told to one descendant, Jane Wallace of Larned, Kansas by one of her relatives: (i) James Monroe Cavender was actually born in France and was originally named La Fayette Cavender ("LaFayette Cavender"?); (ii) that, he first came to the this country as a teenager in the 1830's as a stowaway and, after 4 days at sea, he turned himself in to the Captain of the ship, but received no punishment; (iii) that, around 1840, he married Frances Stanley (“Frances Standley”?) in Mississippi and who was born in Tennessee and was the daughter of James Stanley (“James Standley”?); (iv) that, his father apparently had told him that he had been named after a famous member of the family. However, supposedly he did not like his original given name of LaFayette and changed his name to James Monroe Cavender; (v) and, that, it was said that members of the LaFayette family were given asylum in recognition of the service rendered by the French General Marquis de LaFayette ("Marquis LaFayette" & "Marquis La Fayette"?) during the American Revolution, and that his mother's married name was Chavangiac, which apparently is the French spelling of the surname "Cavender".

However, it of interest to note that if James Monroe Cavender did, in fact, change his given name from La Fayette because he did not like the name La Fayette, then why did he name one of his sons La Fayette Cavender, a name he supposedly did not like?

Apparently, there was a second, and a different, James Monroe Cavender who was born about 1816 to John Cavender, Jr. who was born on January 1, 1791 and Jane Jones. This particular James Monroe Cavender married Nellie Ann Willis (“Nellie Willis”) in 1837 and died about 1851.130, 282 & 304
