1875/12/18 Nannie Cavender (“Anne Cavender”, “Ann Cavender” & “Nancy Cavender”), daughter of William Cavender and a Mary (“Mary Cavender”), was born on December 18, 1875, probably in North Carolina, but is believed to have been actually raised by the James H. Cavender (“James Cavender”) family in Sherman, Grayson County, Texas, and she had 3 sons, one of which was born in Sherman, Grayson County, Texas . Her first husband, Thomas Perry Crain, Jr. (“Thomas Crain’ & “Tom Crain”), was murdered by being hung in Cleburne, Johnson County, Texas by a group of black and white men. His body was apparently found by a James H. Cavender (“James Cavender” & “J.H. Cavender”) and a Burt Cavender. Nannie Cavender Crain later married Homer Bishop who moved the family, then comprising Nanny Crain Bishop (“Nannie Bishop”)and her 3 children, from Cleburne, Johnson County, Texas to around Sherman, Grayson County, Texas. Nannie Bishop (formerly “Nannie Cavender” or “Nancy Cavender”? & later “Nannie Bishop”) died on October 1, 1944, and is buried in the Greenwood Cemetery in Shreveport, Louisiana.
The above Burt Cavender may have been the S.B. Cavender who married Ina May Wood (“Ina Wood”) born on August 15, 1891 in Cedar Hill, Dallas County, Texas. Ina Wood died in Februry 1976. Her last residence was Cleburne, Johnson County, Texas. She signed her social security application as Mrs. S.B. Cavender, and her parents were listed as being Whithern W. Wood (“Withern Wood” & “Whiting Wood”) and Ellen Buxton who were married some time before 1912, probably in Texas. She was located in Lamar County, Texas in 1900 in the home of her father. Her mother died a couple of years after her birth. She had 3 natural brothers and sisters and at least 2 half brothers and sisters.
James H. Cavender (“J.H. Cavender”)was born in Georgia on either April 10, 1842 or April 11, 1842. In 1860, he was living in Georgia with the William Roddy family, married Elizabeth Roddy (“Mary Elizabeth Roddy” & “Elizabeth Reddy”?) in Catoosa County, Georgia on January 2, 1862. Sometime during 1860–1870, he was also living in the household of William Roddy. He moved to Cleburne, Johnson County, Texas by 1880, in July 1905 was living in Johnson County, Texas, died on November 6, 1930 in Cleburne, Johnson County, Texas at the age of 88 years, 6 months and 26 days, and is buried in the Godley Avenue Cemetery.
James H. Cavender had one sister named Matilda Cavender (“Matt Cavender”) who married a Duncan (thus became “Matilda Duncan” or “Matilda Ducon”) and they had a daughter named Pearl Duncan who in about 1910-1911 was living in Garner, Parker County, Texas.
This may be the same J.H. Cavender who was living in Precinct 6, Johnson County, Texas in 1880, and who was then listed as being age 38 and born in Georgia about 1842 and whose father was born in Georgia and whose mother was born in South Carolina. His his family then living at home included his wife Elizabeth Cavender age 36 and born in Tennessee about 1844 and whose parents were both born in Tennessee. Their children then living at home were:

James Cavender had another sister named Talitha Cumi Cavender ("Tabitha Cavender" & "Elitha Cavender") who was born in Georgia in October 1837, married Leander J. Massy ("Lee Ander Massey"?, "Lee Massey? & "Leander Massey") on January 15, 1856 in Ringgold, Catoosa County, Georgia, moved to Garner, Parker County, Texas in 1874, in 1910-1911 was still living in Parker County, Texas, died on August 11, 1923 in Parker County, Texas, and is buried in the Bethesda Cemetery in Parker County, Texas. (Some say she was likewise living in the household of William Roddy at different times during 1860-1870.). A Nannie Cavender stated in her affidavit that she was 61 years of age and that she was present at the marriage of Leander Massey and Talitha Cavender.
Leander Massey was born about 1838 in North Carolina to William Massey born on November 30, 1790 in North Carolina and Jane Burch born on March 28, 1795 in Caswell Country, North Carolina and who was the daughter of a William Burch and Ann Milsap. Leander Massey volunteered for 3 years service on May 1, 1862 in Powder Springs, appeared on a muster roll from February 7, 1863 to April 1, 1863 as a Private in Infantry Company I of Gault’1st Georgia Regiment, was captured on December 22, 1863 in Lafayette County, Georgia soon after the fight at Missionary Ridge, on December 30, 1863 was in a Military Prison in Louisville, Jefferson County, Kentucky, discharged on December 31, 1863 to Rock Island County, Illinois, received at Rock Island, Illinois on January 6, 1864, died on February 3, 1864 in Rock Island, Illinois in the Union Prison for Confederate Soldiers, and is buried in grave No 358 South of Prison Barracks in Rock Island County, Illinois. Talitha Cavender was born on October 10, 1837 in Catoosa County, Georgia, died from cancer on April 11, 1923 in Garner Community, Parker County, Texas, and is buried in the Bethesda Cemetery in Parker County, Texas. Leander Massey’s older brother, James W. Massey (“James Massey”) who was born about 1833, died on February 24, 1864 in the very same Union Prison for Confederate Soldiers in Rock Island County, Illinois. Also, still another older brother, John S. Massey (“John Massey”) who was born about 1836, died on March 17, 1864 also in the very same Union Prison for Confederate Soldiers in Rock Island County, Illinois.
Leander Massey and Tabitha Massey had 3 children who lived for a while with William Roddy and Mary Roddy in Chattooga County, Georgia. However, after learning of her husband’s death, Talitha Massey moved her family to Texas where her brother James H. Cavender (“James Cavender”) and his family were already living. It is said that she first settled in Cleburne, Johnson County, Texas and later settled in Garner Community, Parker County, Texas. Telitha Massey was listed in the 1880, 1900, 1910 and 1920 census for Parker County, Texas, and in her application for pension filed in 1904-1905, she stated that she was then 65 years of age, thus born about 1829-1830. And by 1880, she and her 3 sons were living in Garner, Park County, Texas. She was listed in the 1900, 1910 and 1920 census for Parker County, Texas, died on April 11, 1923 in Garner, Parker County, Texas, and is buried in the Bethesda Cemetery in Parker County, Texas. The 3 children of Leander Massey and Talitha Massey were:
