It is to be noted that according to the 1900 census for Tarrant County, Texas the parents of his son, Joseph Milton Cavender (J.M. Cavender”), were listed therein as being born in Georgia; however, according to another source, the 1880 census for Tarrant County, Texas his parents were listed as being born in North Carolina, not in Georgia. The senior Joseph Cavender left Fayette County, Georgia in or soon after 1834 and moved to the newly-formed Walker County, Georgia only a short time before his son Joseph Milton Cavender was born. There he settled on land belonging to a Cherokee Indian woman named Nancy Faught. She had lived on land which had been awarded to a Cavender by one of the land lotteries in which he had taken place.

The U.S. Government purchased a strip of land from the Cherokee Indians which was 4 miles wide by 10 miles long, running east from near Hog Mountain in Jackson County, Georgia to the Wofford Settlement, which had been purchased earlier from the Cherokee Indians, 4 miles wide by 23 miles long, running West from near the Currahee Mountain, southwest of Toccoa, Georgia to within 10 miles of Hog Mountain, down the Franklin County, Georgia and Jackson County, Georgia line.

Gwinnett County was formed from Cherokee Indian ("Cherokee Nations") lands between the Appaloaches River and the Hightower Indian trail. It also runs along the Chattahoochee River which was the dividing line between the Creek Indian ("Creek Nations") lands and the Cherokee Indian lands. Joseph Cavender continued to live near Hog Mountain, Jackson County, Georgia where some say his 10 children were born, 7 daughters and 3 sons.

In the 1810 census for the Pendleton District of South Carolina, a Joseph Cavender was then living there and comprised 1 male age 16-26, 1 male 45 years and older, and 1 female age 26-45 years.

In the 1817 census for Wilkes County, North Carolina, a Joseph Cavender family was living there and then comprised 2 males age 5 years and under, 5 females age 1-10 years, 2 females age 10-16 1 male 45 years and older, and 1 female age 26-45 years.

In 1819, Joseph Cavender is listed in the land lottery for Gwinnett County, Georgia.

In the 1820 census for Gwinnett County, Georgia which was taken two years after Gwinnett County, Georgia was created, a Joseph Cavender family was then living here and comprised 2 males under 10 years, 5 females under 10 years, 2 females10-16 years, 1 male and 1 female 26-45, and 1 slave.

However, by the time the 1830 census was taken, the Joseph Cavender family had moved to Fayette County, Georgia, and when the first Tax Digests for Fayette County, Georgia was taken in 1831, Joseph Cavinder ("Joseph Cavender") was listed as then living in Captain Nichols' 6th. District, and apparently then owned 6 slaves, approximately 200 acres of land, and 1 stallion.

In 1832, he was living at the same location, owned the same acreage and had 7 slaves. In 1834, he was living at the same location, owned the same acreage and had 8 slaves. However, by 1840, his family was living in Maury County, Tennessee where he died about 1858.
