(IV) WILLIAM A. CAVENDER ("William Cavender" & “W.A. Cavender”) believed to have been born about 1766 in the Flat Creek ("Flatt Creek") area of Raliegh Township of Amelia County, Virginia near the Appomattox River. The date of his birth is based on the fact that in 1787, his father then listed as Hugh Caffinder ("Hugh Cavender"), was living in Charlotte County and was paying personal estate taxes on himself, one adult white person over 21 years of age, 5 adult slaves, 1 horse and 4 cows. As, his son William Cavender is believed to have been born about 1766-1768, then he would have been 19-21 years of age. Therefore, if he was over 21 years of age, then he would have been born sometime in 1766. 350 & 393

On April 21, 1794, either just before or just after the death of his mother, William Cavender and Dicy Bryant (“Dicey Bryant” & "Diana Bryant"?) jointly executed a marriage bond in Prince Edward County, Virginia which was formed out of Amelia County, Virginia in 1754. Apparently the brother of Dicey Bryant was John Bryant who was the surety for 50 pounds payable to the State of Virginia with respect to the pending marriage of William Cavender to Dicey Bryant, daughter of Jessee Bryant ("Jesse Bryant"?). The witnesses were William Cavender and John Porter. ("Jesse Bryant"?). Dicey in the colonial period in Virginia was from Diana. The -cy and -sy nicknames were more prevalent in Virginia than in Massachusetts anyway.

On September 12, 1805, Eudaley James Cavender ("James Cavender") and his wife, Elizabeth Cavender, sold 206 acres in Lunenburg County, Virginia, on the Waters of Stokes Creek to William Cavender of Prince Edward County, Virginia and believed to be the brother of James Cavender. The above acreage sold by James Cavender to William Cavender was the same land that James Cavender had previously purchased on November 8, 1802 and which was then bounded by the lands of Joshua Johnson, John Slaughter, Daniel Townsend, and Samuel Jordan?, and is located about 3 miles from Fort Mitchell, Virginia, and about one-half the way between the city of Lunenburg in Lunenburg County, Virginia and the city of Charlotte in Charlotte County, Virginia, and is very near the eastern boundary of Charlotte County. The Indenture was recorded by James Cavender and Elizabeth Cavender on September 12, 1805. It has been established that the James Cavender family moved from Lunenburg County, Virginia to Williamson County, Tennessee sometime between the fall of 1805 and the spring of 1806 as he first appears on the tax rolls of Williamson County, Tennessee for the year 1806. 51

It is of signifance to note that in 1806, the State of Tennessee created its so-called "Surveyor's Districts" and two land offices were formed. One of the land offices was located in East Tennessee and the other was formed in West Tennessee (which is "Middle Tennessee" today). All the land in the so-called "1806 Congressional District", generally the western third of the State, were also known as "Chickasaw Lands".

On January 14, 1808, William Cavender and his wife, Dicy Cavender, of Prince Edward County, Virginia, sold to David F. Hammings ("David Hammings") of Halifax County, Virginia, the 206 acres of land in Lunenburg County, Virginia, which he purchased from his brother, James Cavender, on September 12, 1805.58

According to the 1810 census, a William Cavender family was then living in Prince Edward County, Virginia and his family at that particular point in time comprised: 1 male and 1 female below the age of 10 years, 2 males from 10 to 16 years of age, 1 male and 1 female from 26 to 45 years of age, 1 female 45 years or older, and 2 slaves. It is to be noted that in 1810, a William A. Cavender ("William Cavender" & “W.A. Cavender”) family was living in Lunenburg County, Virginia, and his family then comprised: 2 males and 2 females under 10 years of age, 1 female from 10 to 16 years of age, 1 male and 1 female from 16 to 26 years of age, 1 male 45 years or over, and 1 female from 26 to 45 years of age, which obviously was not the same William Cavender family that was then living in Prince Edward County, Virginia. In 1818, the daughter of William Cavender, Mary Cavender, married Peter Fore in Charlotte County, Virginia.
