(6) REBECCA CAVENDER born about 1808 and would have been about 12 years old in 1820, and therefore could have been the 10-15 years old female listed in the 1820 census and who was living in Williamson County, Tennessee in 1850 when the census was taken.

(7) JAMES S. CAVENDER ("James Cavender", “J.S. Cavender” & "James Silas Cavender"?) born about 1811-1812 in Williamson County, Tennessee, first married Tincy Jackson (“Tiney Jackson”?) in Williamson County, Tennessee on October 12, 1834. The ceremony was conducted by John Hughes and Henry W. Sweeney ("Henry Sweeney") was the bondsman. Assuming he was about 21-22 years of age when he married, then he would have been born about 1812-1813 and would have been about 7-9 years of age when the 1820 census was taken and could have been one of the 0-9 males then living in the household of Eudaley James Cavender. On April 20, 1848, James S. Cavender (“James Cavender” & “J.S. Cavender”) married Nancy A. Underwood ("Nancy Underwood") in Williamson County, Tennessee. The ceremony was conducted by J.M. Burns and Patrick Cavender was the bondsman.

In the 1850 census of Williamson County, Tennessee, James Cavender was listed as being 38 years of age and having been born in Tennessee about 1812, his wife Nancy Cavender was then listed as being 35 years of age and having been born in Tennessee about 1815. Thus, according to the 1850 census, James Cavender would have been born in either 1811 or 1812, depending upon whether his month of birth was before or after the census was taken in the summer of 1850, and he could have been about 8-9 years old when the 1820 census was taken and could have been one of the four 0-9 year old males then living in the household of Eudaley James Cavender ("Eudaley Cavender" & “E.J. Cavender”).

In 1850, the children of James S. Cavender ("James Cavender" & “J.S. Cavender”) were Silas Cavender, Elizabeth Cavender ("Betsy Cavender"), Sarah Cavender ("Sally Cavender" and Henry Cavender, which names are not only common to the names of families of Hugh Cavender and Eudaley James Cavender, but also suggests a family connection between the early Hugh Cavender and Henry Cavender of Virginia. In fact, James S. Cavender, Jr., the son of James S. Cavender above, also named his children Nancy Cavender, Elizabeth Cavender ("Betsy Cavender"), Sarah Cavender ("Sally Cavender") and Henry Cavender.

Apparently, just after the 1850 census was taken in Williamson County, Tennessee and just prior to the taking of the 1860 census for Davidson County, Tennessee, James Cavender and his wife and their oldest son Silas Cavender, who was then 15 years old and thus born about 1835, moved to Davidson County, Tennessee, where James Cavender was then listed as being 38 years old and thus born about 1812, Nancy Cavender was listed as being 35 years of age and thus born about 1815, and Silas Cavender was listed as being 15 years of age and thus born about 1835. They were then living in Davidson County, Tennessee in the same household with three other adults: Harrison Cavender then age 28 and born in Virginia about 1822 and apparently his wife Julia Cavender then age 27 and born in Tennessee born about 1823. Also listed as living in the same household was James Harrison (“Cavender”?) age 8 and thus born about 1842.

It of interest to note that the above James Cavender family must have moved Williamson County, Tennessee shortly after the census was taken in Davidson County, Tennessee. For example in the 1850 census for Williamson County, Tennessee the listing is as follows: “CAVENDER, James 39, Nancy 39, Silas 15, Elizabeth 13, Sarah Jane 11, and Henry 8, T Va, Wi-805-593.” 122, 137, 173 & 174

The children of James S. Cavender and Nancy Cavender included:

Silas Cavender born in Tennessee about 1835 and may be the same Silas Cavender who married a Sarah (“Sarah Cavender”?) in Nashville, Davidson County, Tennessee on October 1, 1856 according to page 21 of the “Obituaries & Marriages from Tennessee Baptist 1844-1862". In 1850, Silas Cavender and his parents were living in the 2nd. subdivision, Davidson County, Tennessee in the same household as Harrison Cavender who was then age 28 and thus born in Virginia about 1822 and his wife, Julia Cavender who then age 27 and thus born about 1823 in Tennessee, and a James Harrison (“Cavender”?) who was then 8 years and thus born about 1842. Also living in the same household was Patrick Cavender then age 32 and thus born about 1818;

(NOTE: Actually, the 1850 census states “CAVENDER, Harrison 28, Julia 27, Patrick 32, James 38, Nancy 35, Silas 15, James HARRISON 8, Va T, D-92-548"

It does not really state that the above James HARRISON (“Cavender”?) is the son of the head of the household listed as Harrison Cavender, or whether he is the son of the listed James Cavender, or whether is name is merely James Harrison. Further stated in the published census is the statement “Where a person of a different surname than the head of the household is included within that household, we have printed his surname in all capitals.”

Query: Is the above James HARRISON (Cavender) the son of the listed Harrison Cavender age 28 or the son of the listed James Cavender age 38 or whether his name is merely James Harrison?) This is further complicated by the fact that the 1860 census for Wilson County, Tennessee, which is adjacent to Davidson County, Tennessee, the only son of Harrison Cavender listed was Andrew Cavender age 2 (i.e., NOT James Harrison Cavender!) However, James Harrison Cavender would have been about 18 years of age in 1860 and he may have moved out of the household of Harrison Cavender. Also, listed in the 1870 census for Wilson County, Tennessee, the only son of Harrison Cavender listed was Andrew Cavender age 12. James Harrison Cavender was NOT listed as being a son of Harrison Cavender;

Elizabeth Cavender born in Tennessee about 1837;

Sarah Jane Cavender (“Sara Jane Cavender”?, “S.J. Cavender” & "Sarah Cavender") born in Tennessee about 1839; and,

Henry Cavender born in Tennessee about 1842;

(8) JOSEPH WYATT CAVENDER ("Joseph Cavender", “Joseph W. Cavender”, “J.W. Cavender” & "Wyatt Cavender") was born December 17, 1814 in Williamson County, Tennessee, married Sarah Marshall Pierce ("Sarah Pierce" & "Sarah Pearce"?) on September 19, 1838 in Maury County, Tennessee, enlisted in Capt. Fisher's Company of the Tennessee Artillery of the Confederate Army on October 1, 1861 in Nashville, Davidson County, Tennessee, served in the fall battles, including the one at Belmont, Missouri. In the Spring of 1862, Federal gunboats under the command of Commander Foote began the descent of the Mississippi River with bombardment all the way at strategic points. Joseph Cavender was killed in action on April 1, 1862 during the attack of Island #10 in the Mississippi River in Laclede County, Missouri. It is believed that he was buried in the Confederate Cemetery in Columbus, Kentucky. Sarah Pierce was born March 14, 1820 in Hardin County, Tennessee, moved to Williamson County, Tennessee, where she married Joseph Cavender, later remarried on November 4, 1864 in Nashville, Davidson County, Tennessee to James Monroe James ("James James") who was a widower with one son, and died August 27, 1876 in Laclede County, Missouri. In the summer of 1820 when the 1820 census was taken, he would have been about 6 years old and must have been the second of the four 0-9 year old males listed in the household of Eudaley James Cavender.

In the 1850 census for Lewis County, Tennessee, the same county in which his brother Stephen Cavender was living, Joseph W. Cavender is listed as having being 35 years of age and having been born in Tennessee; thus, according the census listing, he would have been born in either 1814 or 1815 depending upon whether he was listed in the early part of 1850 or the latter part of 1850. Actually, he was born in the latter part of 1814. His wife is listed as Sarah N. Cavender (actually "Sarah Marshall Pierce" & "Sarah Cavender") age 29 and born in Kentucky. (Actually she was born March 14, 1820 in either Hardin County, Kentucky or in Hardin County, Tennessee as Hardin County, Tennessee was not formed until 1820, the year following the Jackson Purchase, and died August 27, 1876 in Laclede County, Missouri.) Lewis County, Tennessee was formed from parts of the counties of Maury County, Tennessee, Hickman County, Tennessee, Wayne County, Tennessee, and Lawrence County, Tennessee in 1843. The particular section given to Lewis County by Maury County was returned to Maury County in 1852. That is the reason the Joseph Wyatt Cavender family is listed in the 1850 census for Lewis County, Tennessee. (It is to be noted that Lewis County, Tennessee was formed from parts of the counties of Maury County, Tennessee, Hickman County, Tennessee, Wayne County, Tennessee, and Lawrence County, Tennessee in 1843. The particular section given to Lewis County, Tennessee by Maury County, Tennessee was returned to Maury County, Tennessee in 1852.)

According to the 1860 census, Joseph Wyatt Cavender (“J.W. Cavender”) was then living in the 3rd. District of Hickman County, Tennessee. At that time, he was listed as being 45 years of age and born in Tennessee about 1815, his wife Sally Cavender (“Sarah Cavender”) was then age 40 and born in Tennessee about 1820 and their children then living at home were: Dolly Cavender (“Dorothea Cavender”?) age 15 and born in Tennessee about 1845; Silas Cavender age 14 and born in Tennessee about 1846; Joseph Cavender age 12 and born in Tennessee about 1848; Sarah Cavender age 10 and born in Tennessee about 1850; Martha J. Cavender (“Martha Cavender” & “Martha Jane Cavender”?) age 7 and born in Tennessee about 1853; Polly Cavender (“Mary Cavender”, “Mary J. Cavender”, “M.J. Cavender” & “Mary Jane Cavender”) age 5 and born in Tennessee about 1855; and, Abagail Cavender (“Abigail Cavender”) age 2 years and born in Tennessee about 1858. (NOTE: In 1860, an Abagail Cavender or Abigail Cavender family was also then living in the 3rd. District of Hickman County, Tennessee.)418

The children of Joseph Wyatt Cavender and Sarah Cavender were:

James Henry Cavender (“James H. Cavender”, “James H. Cavender”, “J.H. Cavender” & "James Cavender") born October 29, 1839 in Lewis County Tennessee which later became Maury County, Tennessee;

Susan Elizabeth Cavender (“Susan E. Cavender”, “S.E. Cavender” & "Susan Cavender") born April 29, 1841 in Maury County, Tennessee which later became Lewis County, Tennessee, and married Littleberry Green August 28, 1862 in Davidson County, Tennessee. (It is to be noted that Lewis County, Tennessee was formed from parts of the counties of Maury County, Tennessee, Hickman County, Tennessee, Wayne County, Tennessee, and Lawrence County, Tennessee in 1843. The particular section given to Lewis County, Tennessee by Maury County, Tennessee was returned to Maury County, Tennessee in 1852.);

Dolly Julia Ann Cavender ("Dolly Cavender", Julia Cavender", “Dorothea Cavender”?, “D.J.A. Cavender” & "Juliza Cavender"?) born February 28, 1843 in Maury County, Tennessee which later became Lewis County, Tennessee, and married John C. Cavender ("John Cavender", “John Charles Cavender”? & “John Calvin Cavender”?) on February 9, 1863 in Davidson County, Tennessee. (See note below.);

Silas Washington Cavender (“Silas W. Cavender”, “S.W. Cavender”, "Silas Cavender") born April 28, 1844 in Maury County which later became Lewis County, Tennessee. (It is to be noted that Lewis County, Tennessee was formed from parts of the counties of Maury County, Tennessee, Hickman County, Tennessee, Wayne County, Tennessee, and Lawrence County, Tennessee in 1843. The particular section given to Lewis County, Tennessee by Maury County, Tennessee was returned to Maury County, Tennessee in 1852.);

Joseph William Cavender. Sr. ("Joseph Cavender", “Joseph W. Cavender” & J.W. Cavender") was born May 24, 1846 in Maury County, Tennessee which later became Lewis County, Tennessee (It is to be noted that Lewis County, Tennessee was formed from parts of the counties of Maury County, Tennessee, Hickman County, Tennessee, Wayne County, Tennessee, and Lawrence County, Tennessee in 1843. The particular section given to Lewis County, Tennessee by Maury County, Tennessee was returned to Maury County, Tennessee in 1852.). He married Alice Elizabeth Johnson ("Alice Johnson") on October 11, 1871 in Lebanon, Laclede County, Missouri with the Baptist minister Rev. George Miser performing the ceremony, and died October 23, 1890 in Union City, Obion County, Tennessee, leaving a widow and 10 minor children. Alice Johnson was born June 18, 1853 in Aurora, Dearborn County, Indiana, and died September 15, 1921 in Fulton, Fulton County, Kentucky. In 1865 Joseph William Cavender, Sr. moved to Savannah, Tennessee, where he entered the ferry business sometime after April 1865, and moved to Johnson County, Illinois in late 1866. In the Spring of 1868 he began farming in Lacede County, Missouri, and he later returned to Savannah, Tennessee, where he became a leading grocer. The Joseph Cavender family is listed in the 1870 census for Union Township, Laclede County, Missouri. Alice Johnson was born July 18, 1853 in Dearborn County, Indiana, and died September 15, 1921 in Fulton, Fulton County, Kentucky. Apparently the marriage of Joseph Cavender and Alice Johnson was against the wishes of both families as he was from a southern family and she was from a northern family. The discord was such that Joseph Cavender packed his belongings and moved from Tennessee sometime during 1874 with his wife and baby. His immediate family apparently never again saw their families that they left behind. Shortly after 1891 and after the prior decease of her husband, Alice Cavender moved her family to South Fulton, Weakley County, Tennessee, and died September 15, 1921 in Fulton County, Kentucky. Joseph Cavender and Alice Cavender had 10 children:

Susan Elizabeth Cavender ( "Susan Cavender" & “S.E. Cavender”) born July 23, 1873 in Fredericktown, Missouri, married a Hackman who was supposedly much older than Susan Cavender, and died about 1947 in Bakersfield, California. Susan Cavender Hackman ("Susan Hackman") did not have any children and died a wealthy woman with a ranch and oil lands in Bakersfield, California;

Sarah Ann Cavender ("Sarah Cavender" & “S.A. Cavender”) born June 25, 1875 in Savannah, Hardin County, Tennessee, married Malcolm Edward Henning ("Malcolm Henning") about 1892, died February 7, 1955 in Bunkie, Avoyelles Parish, Louisiana, and is buried in Greenwood Cemetery in Pineville, Rapides Parish, Louisiana. Malcolm Henning was born about 1871 in Savannah, Hardin County, Tennessee. The children of Edward Henning and Sarah Henning were:

Edward Malcolm Henning, Jr. ("Edward Henning") born August 18 in Kentucky, married a couple of times, and had a son and a daughter, and died in March 1987 in Naples, Collier County, Florida; and,

Montez Henning ("Montez Henning") born December 31, 1896 in Kentucky, married her cousin Col. William David Haas, Jr. ("W.D. Haas" & "William Haas") in January 1918, died August 8, 1992 in Bunkie, Avoyelles Parish, Louisiana, and is buried in Greenwood Cemetery in Pineville, Rapides Parish, Louisiana. William Haas was born June 18, 1897 in Bunkie, Avoyelles Parish, Louisiana, was the son of Dr. William David Haas, Sr. (“William Haas”) and a Hattie, died August 7, 1970 in Sugartown, Vernon Parish, Louisiana, and is buried with his wife. Col. William Haas and Montez Haas had at least 2 children:

Montez Henning Haas, Jr. born October 28, 1918 in Alexandria, Rapides Parish, Louisiana, married Warren Leroy Constant (“Leroy Constant”) on October 28, 1939 in Oak Hall Plantation near Bunkie, Avoyelles Parish, Louisiana, died December 1, 1995 in Bunkie, Avoyelles Parish, Louisiana, and is buried in Greenwood Cemetery in Pineville, Rapides Parish, Louisiana. Warren Constant was born December 19, 1911 in Kansas, was the son of Robert Leroy Constant (“Robert Constant”) and Clara May Warren (“Clara Warren”), died February 16, 1981 in Bunkie, Avoyelles Parish, Louisiana, and is buried with his wife. Warren Constant and Montez Constant had 4 children:
