verbs that take both infinitive and gerund
Sometimes the same verb can take either the infinitive or the gerund, depending on its meaning. They take the infinitive when the focus is on the purpose or objective.

Start and begin can be followed by either the infinitive or gerund with no apparent change in meaning. However if start and begin are in a continuous form (e.g. is starting, was beginning ), then they are followed by the infinitive. After it is used you can either use the infinitive or for + gerund.
