Operations Supervisors: Ron Caraway, John Ryan and Hope Macaluso
Incident: Aircraft and vehicle collided.
Location: Intersection of the west taxi lane of Ramp 4 and Spine Road.
Details: Operations was notified that a vehicle and an aircraft had collided at Ramp 4 Spine Road. The aircraft, ASA Flight #4548, a CRJ-200, arrived on the south airport complex and was taxiing northbound on Ramp 4, inbound to gate C-33 on the west taxi lane as instructed by Ramp Control. An ABS pickup truck #27 traveling on Spine Road apparently westbound collided with the aircrafts’ right wing causing the truck to be flipped onto its roof. The truck driver, Anthony D. Howard, was evaluated by an Echo unit and was released. There were no injuries sustained by the 3 flight crewmembers or 21 passengers on board the ASA aircraft. Operations was in communication with the FAA Command Center, Chris Scott. He advised NTSB agent Dale Donogan released the aircraft and passengers at approximately 0732. The ramp area was cleaned, inspected and reopened at 0901. APD Case # 04-025-479
Injuries: None reported.
Damages: The vehicle sustained substantial damage to its cab and body due to being overturned. The aircraft sustained significant damage to the right wing.
Vehicle/Driver: A.B.S. employee Anthony D. Howard, ATL SIDA badge number 259327, expiration 10/31/04, “D” located on badge. ATL Badge was confiscated until further investigation. APD Citation issued for Failure to yield right of way to aircraft. Ford Ranger, GA tag number 848 RAZ, exp. 01/04, ATL vehicle permit #3895. Vehicle was towed by Maintenance to a lot near the Dobb’s House. ABS Director, Randy Glunn, 6000 N. Terminal Pkwy, Atlanta, GA 30320. 404/530-2500
Aircraft/Flight Crew: Flight #4548, Canadair Regional Jet 200, Registration # N913EV, scheduled flight departed Valdosta, GA and arrived Atlanta, GA. ASA Captain David Winters. First Officer Mark Bird.
Weather: Before sunrise, heavy rain.
