The famous Bulgarian painter Nenko Dimitrov Balkanski was born in the town of Kazanlak on 20th of September 1907. He has graduated the National Art Academy in Sofia in 1930,specialty “Landscape Art” After that he has studied in Paris and Munich and specialized in Italy in 1939-1941. Part of his paintings are exhibited in the National Art Gallery and most of them are in the Art Gallery of Kazanlak.

Nearly 27 years Vladimir Dimitrov ` Maystora (the Master) worked in his home region of Kustendil, in the village of Shishkovtzi. He painted the rural life, the customs and holidays of the people, searched for the typical characteristics of the Bulgarian national type and the relations between the people and the nature. That’s how his paintings were born.
