FAMILY FUN ON THE FARM AT ANNUAL FALL FOLKLIFE FESTIVAL

-- Atlanta History Center Festival Filled with Variety of Demonstrations, Kid-friendly Activities, and Local Artists Showcasing Traditions of the Southeast --

September in Atlanta brings cooler weather, the beautiful colors of autumn leaves, and an array of cultural traditions. As a result, this is the perfect time for outdoor activities with family and friends. To celebrate this wonderful time of year and honor the rich traditions of the Southeast, Atlanta History Center presents Fall Folklife Festival. Held Saturday, September 10, 2011 from 11:00 am to 4:00 pm, Fall Folklife Festival offers a full day of enriching activities designed to delight and educate every member of the family on time-honored crafts and environmental sustainability.

An assortment of scheduled and ongoing events occurs throughout the museum and onto the History Center's outdoor campus and Smith Family Farm. During the day, visitors may visit and shop with a variety of local artists who use traditional folk art techniques while adding a modern twist. Interact with local chefs and farmers as they discuss current culinary trends that focus on farm-to-table food practices and sustainability techniques. Enjoy the sounds of local musicians performing sets of folk and blues and bluegrass music. Take in a book lecture with author Charles Salter as he discusses his book, The Georgia Rambler: A Potter's Snake, the Real Thing Recipe, a Satilla Adventure and More.
Attendees can try their hands at crafting activities such as pottery, crocheting, candle-dipping, and more. Retreat into nature with a walk through the autumn leaves in any one of the History Center's six Historic Gardens. Dine on sumptuous meals and treats for purchase from Hummingbird Street Food and/or Honeysuckle Gelato. And, for the little ones, stop by the petting zoo to meet some new friends including a miniature horse, donkey, cow, goat, sheep, rabbit, and even a pot bellied pig.
The Atlanta History Center's Fall Folklife Festival is supported by the Fulton County Arts Council and Macy's. Admission to the festival is free to members and included in the price of general admission for nonmembers. General admission grants access to all of the Atlanta History Center's offerings, including public programs and festivals, award-winning permanent exhibitions, temporary exhibitions, tours of the Historic Houses, and access to six Historic Gardens.
