Rampage Sport Fishing Yachts Preserves Fishing for Future Generations

Company partners with The Billfish Foundation to protect diminishing populations

Oconto, Wis. (May 14, 2008) – Showing its strong commitment to fish conservation, rugged offshore fishing-boat manufacturer Rampage Sport Fishing Yachts today announced its partnership with the globally recognized conservation group, The Billfish Foundation (TBF). Rampage Sport Fishing Yachts will work closely with TBF to protect dwindling billfish populations worldwide through the TBF’s Tag & Release Program – the organization’s flagship endeavor.
The recent fishery management crisis over white marlin and Atlantic blue marlin highlights the downward trend of billfish and associated sports fish populations. Rampage Sport Fishing Yachts is committed to identifying solutions to this problem by placing emphasis on synthesizing science into effective fishery management solutions so that future generations can enjoy healthy ocean and economies. The sponsorship by Rampage of this TBF Tag and Release program will go a long way toward achieving that goal.
“Fishing has brought families and friends together for decades, and we are proud to partner with TBF to help conserve billfish populations so that future generations can enjoy this great sport,” said Jim Viestenz, president of KCS International Inc., parent company of Rampage Sport Fishing Yachts.
A primary component of the scientific study is the production of more than 20,000 hydroscopic tags made from the same biologically compatible material used to construct artificial hearts and bone joints. The tags will be used by anglers worldwide to record vital fish data such as estimating age, growth, movement, distribution and stock structure. Rampage Sport Fishing Yachts will support TBF with the manufacturing and distribution of key components used by anglers to report their catch-and-release data. The information collected from anglers will then be interpreted by leading scientists to establish the knowledge base needed to tackle gaps in our understanding of pelagic fish biology and develop sustainable fisheries management policies.
“Rampage continues to demonstrate its dedication and strong commitment to billfish conservation through assuming an active role in advocating responsible fishing practices and educating anglers about the importance of preserving billfish populations,” commented Ellen M. Peel, TBF president. “The organization plays a vital role in keeping our oceans healthy and protecting them for future generations to enjoy.”
Leading the way in saltwater fish conservation, TBF is the only non-profit organization dedicated solely to conserving and enhancing billfish populations around the globe. Founded in 1990 by anglers and captains, TBF’s Tag & Release Program is the largest and most successful international billfish tagging program in the world, and remains the cornerstone of the TBF’s work.
