UNIT SPECIFIC OBJECTIVES CONTENT TEACHING AND LEARNING ACTIVITIES EVALUATION UNIT 2 STATE OF AQUACULTURE IN GHANA UNIT 3 AQUARIUM ACTIVITIES The student will be able to 2.2.1 describe the state of aquaculture in Ghana. 2.2.2 identify the basic problems facing aquaculture development in Ghana. 2.2.3 outline solutions to the problems of aquaculture in Ghana. 2.3.1 identify the requirements for constructing an aquarium. 2.3.2 design and construct an aquarium. State of Aquaculture in Ghana - number and sizes of farms - types of cultured species, etc. Factors affecting aquaculture development in Ghana e.g. - few specialists in the field - high cost of pond construction - high cost of feed - difficulty in obtaining fingerlings - difficulty in accessing credit - difficulty inland acquisition Solutions to problems facing aquaculture in Ghana - improved land tenure system - availability of fingerlings etc. Requirements for constructing an aquarium - receptacle (e.g. perspex or glass, - adhesive, filters, aerator/pump - water Aquarium design, construction and stocking. - Invite a resource person to give a talk on the state of aquaculture in Ghana. The talk should include prospects and challenges in the industry. Students to review the existing aquaculture infrastructure. Students watch film/pictures on various aquaculture practices and discuss the problems facing the aquaculture industry in Ghana. Groups of students to brainstorm on solutions to problems facing aquaculture in Ghana. Students to discuss the requirements necessary for the construction of an aquarium. Teacher to invite a resource person to assist students to design and construct a simple aquarium. Write an essay on the state of aquaculture in Ghana. Outline two problems encountered in the aquaculture industry and suggest solutions to them. Compare aquaculture practices in Ghana and another country of your choice. List three (3) items needed for the construction of an aquarium.
