Jonathan Toews, C, Chicago Blackhawks The number one rookie from last season continues his impressive displays on the ice. He turned into a much better performer on the defensive side and he proved very tenacious at working in traffic in front of the net. Toews is definitely one of the top choices for new, start-up keeper leagues.
David Backes, C, St. Louis Blues The third season is a charm for Backes as he produces breakout numbers in terms of his scoring units and he gets a serious upgrade in his skating ability. The penalty rating will not wet appetites and may even sway folks from thinking about including him on a roster but the shooting columns do provide some firepower.
Mark Savard, C, Boston Bruins This is probably the best Strat card for Savard. The overall stat numbers for the 05/06 season with Atlanta seem better but the scoring columns for that season aren't nearly as good as here. Savard is a good two-way player and the lack of intimidation ability is really the only negative in his column.
Niklaus Backstrom, C, Washington Capitals The sophomore season revealed significant upgrades on the offensive and defensive ends of the ice. Backstrom doesn't have big units for normal scoring situations but he's good on the power play and he's really more of a playmaker and all-around player rather than a big shooter in this league.
Dave Krejci, C, Boston Bruins The third NHL season finally delivered on the buzz and hype generated by the scoring displays in Providence from a few seasons ago. Strat rates Krejci as very strong defensively and the 7-INT and 12(1) skating rating add to his versatility for the draft league environment.
Anze Kopitar, C, Los Angeles Kings There is a slight drop in goal-scoring proficiency but Strat upgrades the intimidation and skating ratings. Kopitar is not an exceptional scorer but works well in traffic and knows how to get in proper positions on the ice.
Joe Pavelski, C, San Jose Sharks Consider Pavelski as a strong compliment or role player instead of the big scoring threat. The big faceoff and skating ratings are important for Pavelski's Strat value and we also see a big increase in the defensive ability in this new set.
Derek Roy, C, Buffalo Sabres This is basically the same card as last year. You kind of wish Roy offered a little more with the intimidation and defensive ratings but the scoring columns are good for a second-tier player and the high skate rating comes in very handy. This is the fifth Strat card for Roy so we're probably looking at his max value and can expect similar cards over the next few seasons.
Jason Arnott, C, Nashville Predators This is Strat card number 15 for Arnott and it's the highest goal-scoring tally since his rookie season. There's good shooting action on the inside and rebound columns and the normal units here represent a big improvement over last season.

Michael Cammalleri, RW, Calgary Flames This is a mega-offense cards in the hands of the right Strat coach based on the high number of scoring chances. Cammalleri is a bonafide scoring stud with the power play units. The defense isn't much but you don't really care if you have the passing ability to put the puck in his hands. The faceoff rating is a nice bonus and the card is much better than last year's final card with the Kings.
Phil Kessel, RW, Boston Bruins This is the breakthrough card for Kessel with a sizeable upturn in scoring prowess and Strat unit chances. The D-2 is passable but you'd like to see a little more out of the intimidation rating.
