Going to College? Some things to consider

  1. Do I want to go to college? Why?

  2. Do I have a general idea as to what I want to major in?

  3. Do I want to:

    1. Stay close to home? Why?

    2. Stay in state? Why?

    3. Go out of state? Why?

  1. Do I have the money to pay for all or part of my college?

    1. HOPE Scholarship?

    2. Academic Scholarship?

    3. Other financial aid?

  2. Do I meet the entrance requirements to go to my first choice of Colleges?

  3. If not, am I interested in attending another college?

  4. Once I have thought about the above:

    1. Talk to your coach about your decision

    2. Your coach will get in touch with the college(s) of your choice

    3. Your coach will arrange a tryout, if allowed

    4. If needed, your coach will send a generic information package to several schools of your choice.

  5. Have you taken the S.A.T. or the A.C.T?

  6. Have you registered with the N.C.A.A. Clearing House?

Make sure that you get the NCAA Clearinghouse Calculator information so you can begin to log your grades on-line. This will lead you in the direction you need to go in order to be eligible for college.

One of your main considerations should be to keep your coach involved. Eventually, the college will contact your coach. It is important that your coach knows your plans and is involved in the process from the beginning.
Please feel free to contact me at school concerning any of this information. 770) 288-3222 Ext: 109 or curt.miller@henry.k12.ga.us
