Purpose: To support a mix of writing, publishing and visual arts projects from around Australia. The priority area of funding is ‘supporting innovation in the Australian creative industries to develop local and foreign markets for Australian works.’

Eligible applicants: If you have a project that meets the Cultural Fund’s guidelines, you may forward your proposal to CAL.

Eligible projects: Current areas of focus for the Copyright Agency Cultural Fund include projects that will:

  • Provide cultural and educational institutions support to give individual artists, authors and publishers opportunities to develop their professional skills and develop new works;

  • Place artists, authors and publishers in educational settings and build awareness of their work in this sector;

  • Underpin export market development of Australian publishing and visual arts; and

  • Provide Australian content with a profile in the increasingly globalised online environment so that Australians can compete effectively on the domestic and international marketplace for creative works.

Ineligible Projects: The Cultural Fund does not typically support the following: living expenses, business overhead costs, capital works, general administrative costs, book launches, exhibition openings, publishers to publish/market books, production costs for theatre, film and other performances, digitisation of back issues/ catalogues of works, creation or maintenance of a website for a publishing house, author or artist, development of iPhone/ iPad/ iPod etc. applications.

COPYRIGHT AGENCY LIMITED – IGNITE CAREER FUND

Funds available: Up to $5,000

Closes: 3 March 2016 & 19 August 2016

Purpose: To support individuals working in the publishing and visual arts sectors to develop skills and enhance their careers.

Eligible applicants: Applicants must be Australian citizens or permanent residents.

Eligible projects: Opportunities typically supported include:

  • Structured mentorships

  • Residencies with structured mentorship or structured learning opportunities

  • Participation in professional workshops, courses and conferences

  • Specific training in technical areas directly relevant to the applicant’s creative professional practice

COPYRIGHT AGENCY LIMITED – CREATE CAREER FUND

Funds available: $10,000, $15,000 or $20,000

Purpose: To support individual mid-to-late career artists and authors by providing grants to support time to write and create.

DEPARTMENT OF THE ENVIROMENT – COMMUNITY HERITAGE AND ICONS GRANTS

Funds available: $2,500 - $10,000
Purpose: To fund a range of interpretation, communication and promotion activities that promote community participation and awareness of places listed on Australia’s National Heritage List.

Eligible applicants: Grants are targeted towards community groups, individuals and local governments that can successfully deliver projects that support community engagement and awareness of places on Australia’s National Heritage List (see website for more detailed criteria).
Eligible Projects: Activities could include the following for places on the National Heritage List: development of signage, brochures and pamphlets; development of web content, smart phone applications or virtual tours; development of interpretive heritage trails and walks; heritage promotion and community education activities that celebrate the National Heritage Listed place(s); community events that enhance awareness of the heritage values of the National Heritage Listed place(s); capturing stories of the importance of National Heritage Listed places to the community in electronic, web ready format, printed or other forms of knowledge transfer.

DEPARTMENT OF VETERAN’S AFFAIRS – SALUTING THEIR SERVICE COMMEMORATIONS GRANTS

Funds available: Community Commemorative Grants – up to $4,000

Major Commemorative Grants – in excess of $4,000



Closes: Community Commemorative Grants – applications can be submitted at any time and will be considered at the next available meeting of the Commemorations Grants Advisory Committee.

Major Commemorative Grants – there are two rounds a year for Major Commemorative Grants:



  • Round 1: Applications close on 1 July for projects commencing no earlier than 1 October in the same year.

  • Round 2: Applications close on 3 January for projects commencing no earlier than 1 April in the same year.

Purpose: To support projects and activities which directly commemorate Australia’s servicemen and women who served in wars, conflicts and peace operations. The grants also promote appreciation and understanding of the role those who have served have played in shaping the nation.

Eligible applicants: Organisations only, such as: community and ex-service organisations, schools and other education institutions, museums and cultural institutions, state/territory and local government authorities and other non-profit community organisations.

Eligible projects: Two categories of grants are available:

  • Community Commemorative Grants
    These are modest grants of up to $4,000 which are available for projects that assist people at a community level and enable small communities to build memorials and preserve wartime memorabilia that is significant locally but is not necessarily nationally significant.

  • Major Commemorative Grants
    These grants are available for significant projects, usually at a national or state/territory level that contribute to Australia’s understanding of its wartime heritage and honour the service and sacrifice of its servicemen and women.

Ineligible projects: Travel and accommodation, construction and repair of buildings, maintenance of memorials and their surrounds, memorials to individuals, memorials located overseas, documentaries, CDs and videos. See website for more ineligible projects.
